It’s not ideal i agree. However, making the correct call is 1000x more important IMO. This game was a perfect example. If they ignore their initial fuck up, which the touch judge clearly saw because he subsequently pointed it out, because it went through one phase too many then the game is over and we never get to see one of the best comebacks in years. Or they go back 10-20m and make the correct call.
This situation also highlights that the two phase protocol is a stupid arbitrary line. Why two phases? That is hardly anything in the context of the game. Why isn’t it the last break in play like they do with foul play? Two phases is likely to lead to legitimate infringements getting missed
or the ref being over cautious and blowing a play up when he otherwise could have let it go and checked back.because it's rugby, it's not supposed to be perfect. If you miss it in real time, tough shit. Call it, or don't call it. Stop being half pregnant.
Also there is so much subjective stuff in a game of rugby, that a try could be rubbed out for a difference of opinion.
Yeah sweet, no need for TMOs or touch judges then. Or the citing commissioner. If it doesn’t get dealt with then and there by the ref then get over it.

It sways the argument IMO because the touch judge saw it. That's different from the TMO going back to review everything because someone complained or the broadcaster keeps playing it on the big screen.

@KiwiMurph Sorry, when I said all at sea I meant the one that complexity fucked up which was #13. He went in to take Smith when Smith was already covered. #23 was left hanging out there but it was because he trusted his inside man.

yep, found the highlights. ALB bites hard on Smith, leaving a monstrous gap that his player ran in to.
I'm dialing the hatred back just a little because the gap Smith is heading for looks way bigger than i thought when ALB makes a decision. And he probably can't see the defender. But it's a shit read, and from a player who should do better. And it's a shit piece of communication, and the whole defensive alignment is out of whack.
Great unders line to hit that hole, and Smith played it to perfection.
But it's all on you Anton.
