Southland v Otago

Otago have been terrible, side to side, no punch, poor options.
Southland on the other hand, everything is turning to gold for them.
@Gunner especially this 2nd 40 (relevant to both sides)
-
Dreadful finish by Otago to compliment Pickerill's blind refereeing.

Have to say the decision to take a penalty when you had Southland on the rack was baffling.
At this point Otago had the game. Definitely the turning point. Would have been a yellow for next infringement. Can’t understand what Collins was thinking.

I had Southland as the lowest scorer for the weekend, but that score line almost flatters Otago...
@Donsteppa me too...

@kev I think shortly after they had a maul that was certain to score, Southland guy comes in from the side, think he was then the player that stole it over the line, and only a penalty...IMO YC at least
BUt this is Pickerill so...
Good for Southland taking advantage!!

@taniwharugby can see why they lost the shield. They really dropped their bundle in that last 20 minutes. Thought I was watching Northland.

It was a perfect storm of brain farts and yips, ioane obviously i his own head all game and Collins (who has been a great captain this season) just not thinking with the call for goal
Combine that with Southland having everything to play for and there you have it

jeez Alaimalo lucky there lying on the top of the Otago player there forcing the easy t/o

I think Alaimalo was lucky to get that ruck turnover too. He made some bloody good front-on tackles in this game though.
Southland butchered at least 3 tries but it didn't matter in the end.

I was going to point that one out but thought It might have just been my bias

Sooooo, who still thinking Ioane is next ten off the rank?
He’s been bloody good this year, one shocker does not ruin a career
Not exactly surrounded by the highlanders let alone the abs

@Kiwiwomble McDowall got a dubious penalty in the 1st half when he clearly had his hands on the ground first. Lamborn mentioned this to Pickerill too. It's a lottery.
-
Not sure why Canterbury let Ray Nu'u go. He's better than any of the midfielders they have now.
@Dice Nu’u was a superb pick up by Dale McLeod who has great eye for talent ..full Credit to Southland , apart from the Ta$man game, they have been in every game in the 2020 season , probably should have beaten both Northland and Waikato .
The irony being , they have beaten the 2 top teams on the Championship ladder both Otago and Hawkes Bay , says a lot about a coach when you don’t have a team loaded with stars , but man don’t they play with heart and a skipper that leads by example ... -

@Kiwiwomble I disagree, this is not his only poor game. This was utter shite, a couple of previous he was poor, and he's also had discipline issues. Not saying he can't sort himself out, but I'd want him nowhere near the ABs this year.

I was only responding to you...even said I wasn’t going to bring it up if no one else did

Fine, we’ll keep him, still rather have him that have him sitting in the stand for the abs
