Was McDermott allowed to wave his arm like that? Donโ€™t have an issue with it, just didnโ€™t know it was allowed.

@nepia he said the gamble part was Tate McDermott the replacement 9 running down the sideline - not the lock.

Ah right, I muddled up the names while watching the vid - I thought the giant lock was McDermott and the halfback had some bogan name like Marshall or Cowan. ๐Ÿ˜‰

But, I agree with @antipodean that still, what part of it is a gamble?

If Dupont and Dulin were the last two players to touch the ball instead of those muppets, the Wallabies would've rightly lost.

@antipodean And it Latu, Arnold, Skelton, Kerevi, JOC etc were in the team we would've fucking steamrolled them.

        Can only play what's there.

My point was the Wallabies required an act of self sabotage from a fifth choice halfback and a fullback from ProD2.

The initial error from the French was to not go for a much further kick for touch after they got the penalty at the end. Far less pressure trying to close out a game in your opposition half than in your own. Dumb play.

Yep, that was an atrocious kick for touch. Worse than most penalty kicks for touch in League, and that's saying something...

Just nice that another team decided to self-sabotage against us, rather than the flipside which happens far more frequently.

Typical first game of the season feel to this game. Thought the Wallabies were surprised by the physical nature of the French but also liked the way the Wallabies attempted to chug it up the middle to try and create space out wide (hope Foster was watching). Is this part of Rennie's plan?

I did too! I thought he said McDermott was 6 foot nine! Maybe he said 5 foot 9 (that would be closer).

i think they really did tire, weren't so good defensively out wide and the collective Wallabies bench did good for once (how often does that happen?)
Strange game in the end though. The practical, determined, dominant France that started was not the France that ended.

I think the real positives are the backrow combination looks willing and balanced. And ample evidence that Test rugby really is beyond Banks and Gordon.

@kiwimurph I don't get the "Main Channel" argument - GEM is serving HD content into basically everywhere and SD if you live in the sticks.

Maybe because I just watch streaming via Stan :man_shrugging:

@nta I know some Foxtel set ups you can't get Gem directly and you have to watch through app - it's certainly more difficult to watch Gem than 9 - even if only slightly.

Much easier to stumble on the game and watch it if it's on 9 than Gem.

I went to bed at halftime how did France butcher that winning position.

i think they really did tire, weren't so good defensively out wide and the collective Wallabies bench did good for once (how often does that happen?)
Strange game in the end though. The practical, determined, dominant France that started was not the France that ended.

It was France B (or C) which started the game. The substitutes were of level "France D" (France E or F as far the props are concerned with a ProD2 LHP and a THP who is not even the regular starter in his club).
