@machpants take it as offensive as you want, I'm happy for him that he's played 100, also not my team so why would I care a whole lot?

You don't need to care, but wanting sky not to show the celebration is pathetic.

@machpants I also want decent homegrown refs but you can't win then all. It was mainly to piss you guys off, seemed to have worked.

@pepe is that what I'm saying? No. I'm saying why do we have TMO's if we aren't going to use them?

Try being in our shoes the majority of the time mate, then you’ll know what salty is!

Stoked for Rene and the team, was a hell of a result considering the year we’ve had.

              Well, pleasantly surprised with that.

Big old slice of humble pie to be eaten...2 of my least favorite players (Hawkins and Hohaia) stepped up tonight, sure they werent perfect, but they did a job, and had some nice touches along the way.

Olsen is a warrior, dude just keeps battling away, bit odd we lost those 3 lineouts in a row though, given I think when he played v Ta$man we won every one, and had won every one of his throws since too...I like big Corey, puts in some work, Li seems to go in an out of games, even scrums looks shit then mans up for a few and looks rock solid

Gooodhue and Caird are a formiddable locking duo, both in the air and around the park, the energy is awesome!

Was concerned about Faukafa having never played 8 before (I dont think he played there in Prem rugby, so if he did, likely schoolboy stuff) but aside form one scrum when we were under pressure if he'd been quicker to get the ball, I thought he did fine, is a strong carrier too, worth persisitng with the big fella (maybe at 6)

Pryor was prominant as always, Macnamara is a bit quieter, playing a bit tight I think.

Nock was very good, showing he is up there at this level, just needs to take his chances at super level better

Solid game by Dan, just played the pivot role really, got smoked carting the ball up a couple of times, but that is one thing I have always maintained about him, he is a tough buggar, so wasnt phased - not sure of that 1st half tactic both he and Reihana (as dual pivots) employed where we ran 2 or 3 phases in thier half then the 10 dropped back to poke a kick through, didnt look like they were going for that stupid new play.

Hohaia, still busts out of the line too often for my liking, but nice floating pass and a nice angled run for his score.

Rooster, what away to bring up your ton, wound back the years tonight!!!

Macilai, another one that wound back the years, so strong in contact, still has nice acceleration too!!

Reihaha was solid at the back, ran it back with purpose, not really tested on defence this week.

Pisi, couple of nice runs, he looks good enough going forward, but really struggles on defence too often for me, would hope that can be coached...

Mau'u with a nice cameo off the bench, JUstin Davies not looking out of place.

A bye next week, and you'd think we must just about have everyone back on board after that??

                Great game by our guys.

We carried really well - Goodhue, Caird, Fa’ukafa ( where has he been? ). That made the cleanouts better. Generally the forwards were all good though starting props struggled at scrum and still lack mobility.

In the backs Ranger had one of those games where he was himself but also importantly kept his error rate down. He held the ball and created options. Nock was superb with clearances. Reihana had a quality game at Fullback although to me he looked like a 1st five. Macalai was a bulldozer - so effective.

Hohaia and Leilua had their best games for us , and Hawkins kicked the goals - pleased for them.

Long time between drinks for us. Hope this team turns up next outing because that was awesome.

Expected that result cos Northland seems to play out of their skins at home v Waikato every time. Much more commitment at the breakdown than Waikato though Jacobson was immense. Really missed Finau tonight. Well played Northland.

Congrats Taniwha, that was an exciting game to watch.

I was impressed with Goodhue’s game. He was everywhere on both sides of the ball. Nock appeared to have his mojo back too delivering the ball and organising the pack.

Was a good fight back from Waikato too. Some nice angled running and getting into the seams of the defence.

Just skimmed through for the other teams Northland has a positive record against in the last decade

                                  Against Won Lost
                                  Waikato 5 3
                                  Southland 5 4

                                  That's it

                                  Other ones I checked

                                  Against Won Lost
                                  Otago 5 6
                                  BOP 4 5
                                  Manawatu 2 9

The Manawatu record is as surprising as the Waikato one

@taniwharugby winners are grinners. There is no doubt ( picking up from something Steven said ) that you need a % of your team operating at a level to compete and win. Key players for me in this regard are:

                                    Olsen
                                    Goodhue
                                    Caird*
                                    Pryor*
                                    Nock
                                    Ranger*
                                    Macalai*

The ones with * have either come in late to team or recovered from injuries. But with them all together, playing well and a few others contributing we looked good.

The disappointing thing for me is the development of the younger players. We seem unable to develop these promising players. And to my mind this not the players fault. We have so many good young players in and around this squad - we need to do better.

@kev yeah and continuing with players like Hohaia and Hawkins year in year out is not helping development...Hawkins guided us round last night, but Cooper should have been starting or persist with Reihana, he needs game time to develop, this season is toast in all ways.

They messed him about last year too. Tua needs time in the midfield, alongside Ranger last night would have been ideal.

Look at how Gregory is struggling, when he should be one of our go to guys after the Super season, but he isn't even looking upto this level often this season

I think Dewes is doing a good job with our set piece, but overall tactics and defence is not ideal...
I hear mixed stuff about Konia....

We need guys like Corey Evans and any number of talented northland kids as well as aspiring Blues players to want to come up here, but our development and play has been so up and down the past few seasons why would they?

                                        I checked a few more:

                                        Against Won Lost Drawn
                                        Hawke's Bay 3 7
                                        Counties Manukau 2 4
                                        North Harbour 2 6 1

I was surprised to see that Northland played so few games against Counties during the last decade.

The home team tends to win this fixture and I was expecting Northland would get up for Ranger's 100th game. Some porous defence from Waikato in the 1st half. Lansdown had a game to forget.
