I've noticed this season that Lord is quite solid. Maybe black is slimming but I thought last year he looked quite skinny. Does well in contact too.

Yeah definitely plays above his size, which is refreshing in NZ rugby. Like Nankivell.

I've never thought of Nankivell as a smaller midfielder, he's about 1.88m and 100kg. Is that small now?

Haven't read the thread, maybe this has already been mentioned but fuck I'm sick of the comms trying to talk up MP. They're pissweak - barely NPC level - and some more hidings are-a-coming. Yet the commentators wank on about MP being able to "unleash their firepower" and referred to Enari and McClutchie as "incredible firepower" off the bench. FFS. They have a couple of former Wallabies well past their best and a whole pile of fringe Super level players ie guys who hadn't been able to make a NZ squad or were at best third choice in their position if they did. It's going to be a long season for them, unless they have some blokes to come in that I'm not aware of.

@shark i can't see this working for any involved. Not with a bunch of rabble like this. A year of hidings and the team will be cut and forgotten. Like the Sunwolves.

Wow, that might be the most defensive post I've ever seen.

It's not the fault of the ex Wallabies that MP suck, but even if they were still performing they can't make enough of an impact to make a difference. The squad sucks.

I reckon I first started whinging about Nisbo 2-3 years ago. The long pauses, delayed play calling and constant player mix-ups are too much. Surely Sky can see this. He's been fantastic for a long time but now is the time to gracefully bow out.

I wonder how long they will keep this up. All the positive talk about MP will surely slowly vanish if they continue to receive thrashing by little more than B teams. Shame they aren't in the Aussie conference.

They have had a disruptive start so maybe they need a bit more time. And to see what they can do against the likes of the Rebels. But if they receive a hiding here too what then. There will be no excuses as the other new team are doing OK

@booboo yeah initial thought was why... but then when you think about how they've used Bridge, I don't see why not. He hasn't looked out of place on the wing at all. In terms of skill set and style of play, he strikes me as Nonu-lite.

Way too much negativity here for a team that is not only in its' first year but has had no chance to even get going with some shit luck around covid
Yeah, they are light on players but they know that and it will take a few seasons. They showed against a Saders side that wasn't as weakened as this Chiefs one that they can compete and build pride.
Give them a chance FFS. I find it great after umpteen years of the same small gene pool and target (ABs) of teams that we have something different.
They learned a big lesson last night in not trying too hard. They pushed things way too far at the breakdown in trying to recreate the small successes they got against the Saders and got pinged off the park.
Take away all that ill discipline and there was an OK side there.

MP had a tough draw in the original schedule until they would have played the Force in Rd 6 and then the Rebels in Rd 8. What they need is to be playing each week to get combinations and be able to improve from the previous weeks performance.

Can I just heap a bit of praise on the Chiefs coaches and management here. They really have found a good culture in the organisation, building on the Rennie days and taking it further.
Pre game they said it was important for the comp that they put a team out and there was total trust in the players they asked to step up (and a few really did).
To me it said that the Chiefs are a full organisation, not just 23 name players that they try to play as much as possible.
There will be times when the opposition plays better on the day but they are putting themselves in a good position to go deep and have belief when they get there.

@crucial Interesting comments by both Gatland and McMillan saying that the 2020 season ended up being beneficial as they had to play so many young players, and that accelerated their development. It is still a very young team.
