Their defence needs to be a lot better than 2021. Average score in the SR TT for them was 25-42. They were scoring enough points to be competitive but were very leaky Reds in SR TT last year:

@booboo said in Hurricanes v Reds: I'm kind of worried that we rate ourselves (NZ teams) so highly and Aus teams so low. I remember last season a few across the ditch were warning NZ fans to not underestimate Aussie sides before the TT comp - the standard had improved, they'd turned a page, it was going to be their year, etc.. etc.. it sounded pretty familiar to another contest (Bledisloe). In all seriousness, I think the Reds should be better equipped to compete in the physical contest with our NZ sides after their experience last year, Thorn has been saying they've been building to attempt to try & match the physicality of the NZ sides. The Brumbies have naturally been more successful at competing with NZ teams in recent times due to Laurie Fisher & Dan McKellar, together they are excellent forwards & breakdown coaches with understanding of how to counter our style of play and disrupt our rhythm. The teams to make the top 8 will be: Blues, Reds, Crusaders, Brumbies, Hurricanes, Chiefs, Waratahs, Highlanders.

@Duluth said in Hurricanes v Reds: Reds paying 3.60 head to head Tab offering an 8.5 point start I agree Canes should be favourites but those odds seem too far in their favour As per usual, it depends what Canes team turns up / is selected.

Apart from Prinsep that's a good 15 based on available players. As usual, we'd all have Sangster or Scrafton over Blackwell but Blackwell is first choice before Ardie in Holland's head I'm sure. Rayasi dropped from the 23 after a good performance, which is harsh, but Goosen & J Savea have been playing well, so any of those 3 deserve to start.

@taniwharugby yup. Looks a lot better with Morgan or Love at 10 rather than JGB that's for sure.

Do we have any Prinsep fans here? It really blows my mind how for so long he's been a starter in the Canes given the other options we have. Be curious to get a fans perspective. He kind of reminds me a (much) worse version of Reuben Thorne. Completely invisible.

I not a Prinsep fan, but you just may of defended him quite a bit by saying he reminds you of Reuben Thorne, who was supposedly invisible to people who perhaps never appreciated that not all things done on rugby field have to be starry things etc, he was a pretty good player anyway. Actually not a bad Canes team from who is available I think.
