I know plenty of Tongans here who prefer the Wallabies over the All Blacks. I think it's because the Wallabies tended to select more Tongans than the All Blacks.

Just read an earlier article where it says Simone wanted to be an AB (and his Dad had wanted to as well), but then switched to league, went to Souths and didn't like it and switched to the NRC and then the Tahs.
