Disappointing is about all I can say about that...didn't expect to win, didn't take our chances in the first half, and then an error ridden 2nd 40 sees that score....

Not terrible but the squeeze got us. Set piece is so important and scrum while better, not good enough resulting in penalties and position against the wind.

We get a couple of guys back in front row and we will be so much better.

Reihana looking classy at 1st. Rush standing up. Big Red to come back as well.

@kev I reckon a few of those scrums he coulda gone the other way too, but went against us (after last week, maybe he assumed we'd struggle, whihc we did in patches) went much better than I expect it to TBH, that 10 mins with no Matich after that dubious PT set us up really, then the subbing of LMH couldnt have been at a worse time.

hate how mauls they only ref the defending team (the game in general, not just this game) right now, the attacking team does no wrong (unless the knock it on)

Have to assume Rush is injured, otherwise why take him off then?

Sky commentators summed it up well Canterbury too much firepower off the bench when it mattered
The Taniwha have improved no question but you still cant afford to have several of your top lineup unavailable against teams of this quality
and you have got to nail every little opporrtunity you get whilst making good decisions yourself .

I did’nt expect we would beat Canterbury with an under powered team but disappointed that we let the score blow out , on the plus side well done to Liam Hallam Eames who i thought was superb throughout in terms of accuracy and he must of impressed Scott Robertson after filling in for the Crusaders earlier this year

Also thought Rob Rush was full noise , love his physicallity he brings and i can see why the Blues have eyes on him..

Rivez Reihana was all class and looks to have time ,Kauika Peterson busy as always maybe an outside chance as a third hooker at the Blues.
Got to also give Allen Craig his dues ,getting better with each game

Pisi Leilua for all his brilliance is such a rocks and diamonds player, when hes good hes sensatiional but today we saw both sides
Just no game sence when hes in space to either look for support or even look around for support ..

Finally on the official , i have no issues with the penalties given against the Taniwha , but where the hell was the consistency especially regarding the deliberate knock down .?

@Steven-Harris I know this is the realm of dreams for us, but we have Ofa, Moulds, Apoua, Robinson, Caird, Jack Goodhue, Ranger, Moorby all unavailable...sure 2 of them likely wont play again for us this year, but still some quality missing.

Canterbury backs looking impotent. Cantabs, are there any good young backs coming through? The current generation is quite poor.

Jone Rove is one to look out for 2nd fIve/ centre had a good nz u/20 campaign.
And a couple of players in the U/19S who look very good.
                  Noah Saukuru a winger
                  Ben Norton a winger
                  James White a first five
Malele Uili is being used as a winger in the /19s but does play in the centres as well.

Cheers. I was probably a bit harsh calling them impotent, but they are certainly not vintage. Glad there are some others coming through.

@taniwharugby I think this has - kind of - been Burke's breakthrough year. Until last season, I had some doubt about whether he's SR level or not. This year he showed in SRP that Razor was right in persisting with him and that he has real potential at SR level (unlike Cameron IMO). He's continuing his good form in NPC. It will be interesting to see if he can develop into more than a SR level player. He only just turned 23.

Burke has really come on,He played really well in SR this season.

More game time in NPC last season set him up for a good SR and he is kicking on from there.

Burke and McAlister maybe in with chance for the New Zealand XV for the end of year tour.

Yeah took a little bit to get into the game but Burke took control and Pohipi was providing go forward.

That was a good tough game, which I think is what was expected from a very good side like Northland. They have some quality out but they are well coached this year and it’s showing in their play.

@ACT-Crusader I know it is cliched, but IMO we were better than that score says...was about 50-70 mins Canterbury upped the tempo and we went off the boil.

Like any game, a few decisions here and there and who knows, but we failed to capitalise on our early chances and put pressure on the scoreboard, in that first quarter and in the end that told.
