@Winger I'm so annoyed! When we were in Covid level 2, even the most low level club or school game was livestreamed. That proved it isn't that hard! They know plenty of people can't travel all the way to Levin for a preseason game; not to mention fans in the South Island. If the Highlanders can stream games from Oamaru and Queenstown, the Canes can do it from Levin.

The Crusaders are posting photos on instagram, so hopefully we get some updates from them.

@Stargazer I was concerned about a hiding in the first half. Hope it doesn't happen

How hard is it to name the try scorer?

Hurricanes 31 (Du’Plessis Kirifi 40’, Asafo Aumua 56’, Matt Whaanga 63’, Cam Roigard 65’, Brayden Iose 72’ tries, Jordie Barrett, Harry Godfrey 2 con)
Crusaders 26 (Cullen Grace 5’, Fergus Burke 7’, 13’, Melani Nanai 53’ tries, Burke 3 con).
                            HT: 7-21.

                            Robertson:

”[The most important thing is] we’ve come out healthy and that’s a win.”

The same can’t be said for the opposition. The win came at a cost for the Hurricanes with flanker Reed Prinsep limping off with an Achilles injury and lock Justin Sangster dislocating his thumb.

With first-fives Brett Cameron (calf) and Ruben Love (groin) sidelined with injuries that will see them miss the opening rounds of the new season, Aidan Morgan and Harry Godfrey shared the playmaking duties for the Hurricanes.

Morgan struggled with his kicking game but he came close to setting up a try right before halftime after arcing around the Crusaders backline and tiptoeing down the sideline, only for his final pass to be intercepted by Burke, who impressed in a losing effort.

Crusaders hooker Codie Taylor was taken off after just 19 minutes after landing awkwardly on his shoulder but Robertson said that was just a precaution. “It was just a stinger from my understanding and it’s come right.”

Just got back from the game.

                                A quick summary:

Crusaders very strong in the first half. They dominated the collision and set piece as expected against the Dad’s army forward pack of the Canes. Prinsep got munted a couple times taking the ball into contact and limped off, with Flanders replacing him just before the spell. Standouts for the Crusaders in the first half were Whitelock, Newell and Grace.

The second half Hurricanes were a totally different side. The best player on the park for me today was Cam Roigard, he is a very smart footballer and I wouldn’t be surprised if he is a bolter at the WC. First time I’ve seen Peter Lakai up close aswell, that kid is built different and when he came on he absolutely dominated in the carry. Standouts for the Hurricanes today were Roigard, Lakai, Aumua, Delany and Flanders.

@Stargazer I overheard Devery talking to someone sitting next to me and he said he will be back after the Aus trip, so maybe round three. He had minor clean-up surgery in his knee so good news for him.

Thanks mate how did Macca Springer ? go I think he played both half’s on the left wing.

Crusaders very strong in the first half. They dominated the collision and set piece as expected against the Dad’s army forward pack of the Canes. Is that who it was, I was trying to figure out who that was shining out wide for the Crusaders. Yeah he was v good, got on the outside a couple times and showed some real gas, I think one break eventually led to a Crusaders try in the first half. Fihaki on the other hand was hot and cold, hot on attack, but was caught out often on D.

The other player that impressed me from a Canes POV was Harry Godfrey. Had a dodgy first ten but as he warmed into the game he showed what a weapon he could be. He broke the line a couple times when he decided to have crack. With B Cameron and R Love sidelined hopefully he takes his opportunity.

I am not surprised Godfrey went well he looked very good the couple times I saw him in the u/20s.
