@Kruse Ill advised in the professional era, but the moralising about it is ludicrous. It's no different to the "I'll snap you like a twig" gesture that happens on every field every weekend. The question was asked and answered and they kept pushing the issue as if he'd shot someone, or misgendered them.

@Stargazer Looked like a very niggly game. At least the Canes have got two on the trot. They also have a lot of talent to come back from injury.

@antipodean yeah i too am in shock that the commentary would draw attention to the throat slitting gesture.

Dont these snowflakes know this is rugby?

Could the Australian coverage make more of an issue of a non-event?

I was actually impressed by their constraint.
Sure - they kept coming back to it, but it was always with the commentators saying "out of character".
            And yeah - my view:

            • started off, trying to calm his team down
            • pulled an opposition player out of a fracas... (in this day and age.. wise? was the force wise, or necessitated? ?)
            • given a YC... as a repeat offence? This decision - I don't know. Seems.. flawed, counter-productive possibly.
            • on his walk-off, he get's given a spray. He responds. VERY unwisely. I'd be very interested in hearing what he heard.
            • BUT - in this era - he should have been able to keep his cool. If some fluffybunny had made reference to his mother, wife, daughter, whatever... it's part of the job now. But... I'd like to know what was said to get him to respond like that.

This was the part that annoyed me. All he did was escalate things and as a captain there was no need for that. Put himself in the hands of the referee and got burnt. Of course Coles was in the middle of the whole thing to start with.

Hopefully lesson learnt for later in the year.

Was an entertaining watch with some good rugby (if loose) and the crowd getting into it post Ardie incident.

Canes seem very reliant on 4-5 of their players but do have players to come back in.

Looked at Mafileo's "yellow" again, and not surprised it was changed into a "red". Diving straight into a player already on the ground. Utter stupidity. It looked like his shoulder made contact with Hardwick's head (it may have been his upper-arm), although not 100% clear from the angle that we saw.

Fair enough IMO. Can’t dive on a prone player with your arm tucked. The head contact may have been accidental but the act that caused it was dumb

I think it was just clumsy, he was trying to help Aumua over the line. Definitely not a red.

Canes with some very dumb rugby and game management. All they had to do was make their tackles and fan out and wait for the Rebels to make a mistake. They had by far the more skilled players and that eventually shone through. Seen it many times from them but more often than not they find their way out of it.

Good lesson for Ardie, instead of reacting to the chirp/reaction from the scrum half, just take your medicine and come back later. Handled it well in the post match interview and put it to bed.

Who does Wheeler have pictures of?

The TMO has to be looking at the cleanout on Jordie surely? How the hell did they miss the lock (#5) come flying superman like at smashing Jordie in the face?

As I said in the France V Scotland thread. The modern rules are a farce. Two reds in 5 minutes in that game , and the cleanout on Jordie (a proper missile job) not even looked at.

Noticed that this ref wasn’t as eager to hurry them along as last week. Wasn’t really an issue in the Saders-Landers game since it was over so soon. Interested to see how it’s managed on Saturday.

Well, interesting watching game in Aus on Stan, the only thing they were interested in was Ardie's gesture, and what was said to him. Seems noone saw it, or heard anything. Have to say I personally pleased that players still seem to adhere to what's done on field etc
