@Derpus if you didn’t enjoy that, you don’t like rugby. Excellent game from both sides.

    Derpus says:

But... the australian team didn't win - therefore... Super Rugby is broken. A worthless comp. A highway to continued mediocrity.
The only solution is an Australia-only comp, where an Australian team is guaranteed to win. With the same referees. And the same players. But... no nasty teams to beat us. So... there's that.

What a surly and ill-tempered response from McDermott. Questionable calls? Sure. But from what I saw, that went both ways.

Tate McDermott blaming refereeing for the loss. Not captaincy material.

Yeah, that was uncalled for from McDermott. Silly thing to say, would have been even if it really were the case, but I don't see how the Reds can be angry with Gardiner at all

            That is fucked up.
A spectacular level of self-delusion. I actually feel a little jealous... to be that ignorant must truly be bliss.

Well it hard to argue with an 8 teams final after that game.

Yep. Can't say it was the best refereeing ever. But also didn't feel like throwing things at the TV because of it either - it seemed to average out.

There's a generation that had their formative years coincide with winning a RWC and holding the Bledisloe. The return to the long term mean has had them blaming referees and calling other teams cheats ever since.

"Some of the call didn't go our way" Meaning: "that's the game and these things can go either way"

"Some questionable calls tonight" Meaning: "I'm a dickhead"

The reds turn up with their best performance in ages and nearly win a final in NZ and that's the takeaway?

@mariner4life I took it as a comment across the comp, not just this game.

11 players out for the Reds according to Thorn. Impressive.

I don't think Stevenson was that bad. He was brillant in attack and his kicks are powerful. The O'Connor's 50-22 was not his fault : 1) the kick was very good 2) he was playing as a left wing and DMac was the fullback, so it was the latter to cover deep.

Chiefs coaching debrief after that one would be a good one to be an observer at. Lots of angsty moments for me watching with one eye when the game was in the balance for so long, but likely not so bad on a calm replay...

Fern favorite ALB was pretty anonymous. On current form, he would not make the AB squad. Has he fully recovered from his injury ?

For such a youngster Lynagh gave a great account of himself I thought. A game like that should do wonders for his development. If Reds can sort their coaching out they could challenge the top 4 next season - they have plenty of talent.

@cgrant Yeah apart from that lazy bit on defence that led to the first Reds try, he was pretty decent. A threat every time he got the ball.
