@Donsteppa this comp is the Chiefs to lose.

    Fixed.

I think the Chiefs are probably in the Blues 22 role, strong round robin to lose to the Crusaders in the final.

Chiefs are much stronger than 22 Blues in my opinion. A better coach, a better tight five, better halves.

Let's not forget that the 22 Chiefs really should have won the semi-final in Christchurch. Add an in-form DMac and I think they would have.

Reds show their round robin win was no fluke. Played shit for most of the season but somehow have the antidote to much of the Chiefs' kicking game, probably parking their back three further behind or something, I don't know. Some strong ruck work from them, too. Scrum was weird.
PGS has to take accountability for that first try after the 5m scrum, that was embarassing.

Control at the back of the scrum has always been a weakness of PGS's. It would have been a different result with Jacobson at no.8.

Like @ARHS I enjoyed the game despite all of my frustrations. I was never expecting this to be a big win and you have to credit the Reds defence as the Chiefs did create try-scoring opportunities. Qld were determined not to play any rugby in their own half but the Chiefs won the kicking duel.

I mentioned in another thread about Murphy as one of the ARs. He was the dominant voice in the comms but missed some very obvious things like offsides (e.g., Reds players advancing in front of deep kicks). No consistency whatsoever.

Lastly, after watching the game today it wasn't anywhere near as bad as it appeared at the ground.

I expected more from him; he's a seasoned All Black so had to do more than just draw and pass.

The Chiefs have gone from winning with style to really winning ugly in the last few games.

Winning of course is still winning but the attacking form appears to be on the decline at the wrong end of the season.

lol what? Two weeks ago we put 31 points past the Brumbies in Canberra
Last week we put 40 past the Force in Perth with a B side.

This week, in a final, we met a Reds team that made 229 tackles at 89%, and still managed to score 29 points.

Prior to losing to the reds the Chiefs had an average 18 point winning margin, since then it's shrunk to 10 - the gaps just closed in the last few weeks that's all.

Winning by 10 in the semi and final would do nicely however.

i couldn't give a shit if we won by 1 with an 82nd minute penalty. Finals is all about being in front at the end.

There's a lot to be said for a calm solid presence in the midfield making good decisions. The guy that can see if the option that was there when the ball was sent out is still viable rather than forcing it into areas that stress retention.
It's something Conrad Smith was very good at.

Possibly to an unmarked player in a yawning gap a few metres from the line? That requires considerable vision and talent.
