    @JK
    Have to be more specific about which straight line you are seeing.

      Thats a clean break, it would have been a shoddy repair job to begin with. Dropping it on a hard surface just broke open where it was previously apart and repaired.

      Im not vested in this, i just work with wood and see this all the time...carry on.

      Well can you fix it ?

      New Zealand Rugby is counting on you.

      Help us Virgil wan Kenobi, you’re our only hope.

      @MN5

      could use glue but based on the evidence theres a good chance that would be abused as well.

        I think that's what annoys most people. Everyone would acknowledge that accidents happen, but it's what you do next that matters, and taking photos of said broken shield and posting it on social media (even in a semi-private setting like Snapchat or a WhatsApp group or whatever) is dumb.

        I suspect there's more to come too...

        Well, I guess we know the identity of the guy who sent the photo to NZR with the caption about snorting drugs. 😉

        Agree, the break in itself isn't the issue, but fuck me young people are dumb with their phones, and posting that shit has just inflamed this.

          I wonder if it will get returned to Welly with the result void if drugs are found on it with testing

            Walker-Leawere was early suspended for having weed in his system... how long does cocaine last in your system? Presumably several Magpies players would fail drugs tests if asked to do them after the BOP game?

              @frugby not long 12-24hours if not a frequent user maybe bit longer if they use it a lot. Hair samples which I doubt they take can basically look back for months/years if required.

                Wow there are some real zingers on here. HB have poor form in this regard, after all they provided the only pitch invaders at a Wahs game that I can recall ever.

                    im in the camp of what happens to these trophies in between games is a bit of the mystique of them, the unsubstantiated stories and urban legends, Dad worked for Air NZ in the 90's as i was lucky enough to have the ranfurly shield, NPC Div 1 trophy and the bledisloe stashed under my bed one night because they came into town on a late flight....theyve obviously be restored since then but i can tell you they we're pretty fucked up back then, the rugby ball on the lid of the bledisloe was super dented and bent over

                    BUT...dont bloody take photos and shit (our court sessions you have to leave your phones), the shield should have turned up for the first challenge next year looking all shiny and nothing but a rumor that "something" went down in the off season

                          Harsh but true.

                          I’m one of the worst culprits. I only went once this year and that was cos I got a free ticket.

                                  I thought the recent repair was with a whole new lump of wood? (i.e., not re-splitting a previous break)

                                    @booboo yeah the old log-o-wood was retired and they brought in the brand new one before Wellington defended it against Southland earlier in the season.

                                          Thats a clean break, it would have been a shoddy repair job to begin with. Dropping it on a hard surface just broke open where it was previously apart and repaired.

                                          Wasn't a repair job, the wood was brand new! They had replaced it.
