@Dan54 yeah I think that's the biggest issue.

The shield has no doubt seen and done some shit which adds to it's legend I guess, and this ain't the first time it's been badly damaged, but normally it just gets repaired without the sideshow

Oh righto. How is this an issue then ? Isn’t he saying what a lot are feeling ?

I paraphrased the "check out the big brains on Brad" line from Pulp Fiction, to help me accuse Higgins of injecting "but what about..." into the argument.

Love it when I have to explain my attempts at humour.

He's bang on, add in posts about snorting coke, and the fact that one of the boys decided to crash car while pissed (which is maybe the worst of all) just has taken away all the feel good for HB over winning shield. Will be interesting to see who gets to play or stood down this week won't it.
Guaranteed at least the pissed driver won't, and will probably get contract torn up.

Does make one wonder if there was some sense behind the Highlander's avoidance of quality Hawkes Bay NPC players.

I for one am pleased to see that winning the shield still warrants a solid celebration.

@reprobate alas, it wasnt what it looks like...

"I was having a bit of a think about that, and all of a sudden I thought 'I know what that is'. On the inside the centrepiece, the actual little oval badge in the middle of it, I actually put plaster in behind that to strengthen it a few years ago and I've got a funny feeling there's still a bit of that powder,” Dwan said.

So would seem someone thought it'd be funny to make it look like something it wasnt....

This whole thing has gotten WAY overblown. As many have said, the shield has broken before... the better question I'd be having, is why were Hawke's Bay allowed such a blowout by their coaches when they have a quarter final in a week's time. I think it is good that the player's care about winning the shield, but regardless of it breaking, seems they were partying to silly o'clock, getting absolutely wasted.

Our coach is an Aussie he was probably leading the celebrations.

Here's the other thing. All these people say, they don't by the fact the shield fell on the kitchen floor, which is a fine opinion to have, but I'm yet to hear plausible alternatives. Do they think they took it with a saw or something.

It used to be that the reserve prop (when there was only one) was the unofficial minder.

The original RS was heavy enough so the new one must be a solid piece of wood. But obviously not solid enough...

A straight break like that looks like two pieces of wood used and joined (badly) in the recent repair job

It wasn't a repair job, the entire shield was replaced.

So replaced with two pieces of timber?
