Why are people complaining about the try?

I couldn't see anything wrong with it.

Shame England didn't win as I doubt they would have any chance against the All Blacks.

Because the runner off the back of the lineoit was tackled to the ground and got up and went again without releasing

    But was he held?

    Yes!

Just looked. Yes he was, but it's unclear to me what he did after that, there's no clear replay of what happened. It certainly looked real-time as if he got up, but potentially just rolled over. Would like to see that from the sideline camera.

I understand your disappointment though @Dodge

To be fair, it doesn’t matter what he did after that. He was tackled, got up, went for the line and was hit again. Whether it made any difference is irrelevant to how obvious a penalty it was

I'm talking after he was tackled. It's not clear to me that he got to his feet. That replay in that tweet is inconclusive. Would like to see that angle rolled on through.

Ox Nche MoM for Boks. Scrum impact changed the game.

Wonder how well he would scrum after being run ragged a bit, because he doesn’t look too mobile. Need to test his fitness.

Any SA fans care to comment on his game outside of scrummaging?

@Dodge 2 tactics - scrum and wait for a mistake. When England weren’t making mistakes, SA had nothing. No creativity. Then Ox came on and started winning them penalties and field position.

Yep spot on. My nerves are fucked already. Not sure if it is the beer or the sheer fear of not winning the 4th world cup and letting SA get ahead of us. As someone said, we play the best type of rugby in the world. that should win for rugby sake.

France are better than you and play better rugby

Bongi plays full 80 too, when they can slow it down to that pace. If the Boks are allowed to slow it like this game, ABs will really struggle. And vice versa

Thoughts on the deciding penalty? Aerial view looked like the green shirt angling in a lot more than white?

I thought the opposite in my single viewing of thatshot. Dunno who went first though.

The old loose forward in me fucking loved that. Just a dirty shitfight

The English back row were so fucking good. In fact England won everything except....

The 2nd half scrums. And it killed them. Everything south africa either fashioned, or used to get themselves out of trouble, was off a scrum penalty. And that brought England back and rammed home their inability to turn pressure in to points.

Both teams could and probably should have just picked two extra loose forwards to play in th3 midfield for all they did. Game completely bypassed them.

Hard to call it a deserved victory, but in a game like that you just need to find a way to be in front at the end. South Africa found the scrum.

Seeing as they lost by one, I guess the loss can be put down to Farrell getting marched 10 for mouth. Lol.

@mariner4life I actually thought that may have helped them. They would have put it in the corner, although England defended those lineout mauls really well.

Typo in the previous post - I missed the "not" which have inserted above.

I'm yet to be convinced. That replay needs to roll through. It's possible he didn't actually get to his feet. You're kind if hoping he did. He might have. Not clear.

I'm happy to be proven wrong, but I'm yet to be convinced.

Don't want to pick a fight though as I know what you're dealing with.

It's * not * clear to me that he got to his feet. That replay in that tweet is inconclusive. Would like to see that angle rolled on through.

How is it inconclusive? He lands, then physically stands up in that shot

Fair play. To me, live he stood up, and I called it at the time. that replay to me shows him pushing back to his feet when he should place the ball. Im drunk, tired and gutted so will high five for now and buy beers in the future

I will say, that a tackle is completed when a knee hits the floor, you cannot stand up, you have to place the ball. That footage shows clearly he didn’t do that

A bit scathing from the Guardian

There’s about an hour on the clock at the Stade de France, and the World Cup semi-final has gone missing. I mean this quite literally. The World Cup semi-final between England and South Africa is, simply put, not there. What the 80,000 people in the stadium are staring at in the meantime through the sheeting rain is not immediately clear. A mass of amorphous wet shapes. Lots of big men scrabbling around on the ground and then very slowly standing up again. Medics and support staff trotting on to the pitch and then trotting off. Lots of talking. Lots of substitutions.

The ball itself hasn’t been seen since about the 35th minute. This is sport as a kind of dark matter, an anti-spectacle, a curious ontological experiment into whether a game of rugby can exist if no actual rugby is being played.

If this is a practical joke on the part of Steve Borthwick and his England team, then it’s an excellent one. And perhaps the logical end point of what they’ve been trying to do for the last few weeks: a game that has been stripped back, and stripped back some more, until it physically disappears. This may well have been the first World Cup game with a negative ball‑in‑play time.

@Duluth @Dodge if it was so obvious, how could the ref, his ARs and the TMO miss it?

He did stand up. Do they believe he wasn’t held perhaps? Or did they just not think it was a penalty offence?

I'd want to see the rest of that image. Yes he's down then vunipola flings him over to try and turn him the wrong way (no immediate release by tackler). I just don't think the view I got from the far side of the field was that obvious.

What I mean is is see him up a bit but never his feet on the ground. Once again not saying it didn't happen but next time you see his feet they're off the ground, vuniploa still has hold of him -so dunno
