A superb performance but the team on the paddock. But I'm afraid they were let down by the Blues fans. The only Super game in New Zealand this weekend and Eden Park was at least 80% empty.

It must be an enormous worry for NZR that their game day revenues for provincial rugby at the moment are so much lower than Northern Hemisphere club/provincial.

@sparky school holidays, and foreign opposition isn't a good combination.

Pretty sure Blues attendance is the biggest in the country consistently. And that's in a city where there's proper NRL competition, and another Super team got created. Attendance issues are huge and run deeper than this game

There really seems to be very little interest in attending rugby games below international level in NZ.

Not surprising when the competitions are treated as feeder for the All Black's, not given autonomy, have a structure that resets every few years and with no urge to look after fans.

Not to mention the changing modern environment with competition for attention.

NZR are control freaks and after a while the issues that that approach start to show

It was torrential rain yesterday in Auckland, that would have kept some away.

Also, the crowd numbers will be on par with other regions, it’s just a bigger stadium. Surely you don’t except 45,000 for a round robin game?

            @Kirwan
Leinster's probably the fairest comparison in terms of population/ competition from other sports etc. They fill out the 19,000 RDS Arena most weeks and they are moving to the bigger Aviva Stadium and Croke Park next year while the RDS is being renovated.

What else is there to do? I'd wager if the IRFU wasn't hell bent on ensuring Leinster's success the crowds would dwindle.

Not sure how Super compares, but this is useful for northern hemisphere

Blues average was about 16-17k last year. So quite high up on that list. Less than the Bulls but more than Munster

What people watching on tv miss looking at the North stand is that when it’s wet plenty of people watch from the concourse. Plus the second tier largely retreats to the lounge which runs the full length of the field

@Duluth Cork has about 15% of the population of Auckland so the Munster comparison is not fair on them. Leinster is the better comparison.

Irish fans going to games and spending money on tickets has helped drive their national side up the World Rankings.

This Blues team are special. It would be a shame if the Auckland fans don't get behind them in the next few weeks

Brumbies look poorly conditioned to me

Or maybe the Blues are in great nick.

At one point they had made over 100 tackles and we had 23. The whole game was like that, we just kept coming.

We drowned them. It built slowly and then got worse and worse

The Blues defence was excellent and I think the Brumbies tried riskier and riskier options as they got more frustrated

We were winning the contact throughout the match too. The Brumbies probably had their best defensive stats (conditions helped) but the Blues were driving forward 2-3m on every tackle.

Quick rucks (0-3sec) 75 Blues, 15 Brumbies. The numbers are similar for rucks over the gain line

Post contact metres: Blues 408m, Brumbies 80m!

Dominant carries: The Brumbies team had 5. Some Blues players matched that (Sotutu & Clarke had 6, Tuipulotu, RI & Telea had 5)
