    Dogshit refereeing

The first breakdown of the winger who took the pass from Halalolo after his break

Winger let's go of the ball because he's tackled. All good

Then proceeds to pass to supporting player whilst still on the floor

    Penalty to HB

Felt a bit lucky with that win after so many errors. Narawa and Ah Kuoi played so strongly. The wind was strong, but changeable. So the quality of catching was remarkable.

We seem to get that day a lot down at the domain, very windy but no idea which direction it is blowing. Felt it picked up in the second half and it was generally in our faces so we couldn't make much progress up field. HB should really have closed that game out by pinning us in our 22 but no sooner did we cough it up but they coughed it straight back to us.

I'm a natural pessimist but realistically we are second favourites against Canterbury if they play anything like they did yesterday. But the TAB has us as favourites currently ...

Good to see our forward pack step up and win us a game, was a very competitive match.

Anytime were favourites it's an immenent loss, so picking a semi-final exit 🙂

HB playmakers were disappointing other than the big break by Godfrey. They should have shut out BOP when the wind turned their way.

@KiwiPie Drove down from Auckland for this game and it didn’t disappoint,.
What I will say having been down to Tauranga since the late 80s
For such a progressive city you need a decent stadium
2 massive queues , one gate open on the terrace side 🤦🏻‍♂️
The way Bop started I thought it was gonna be a long afternoon for the Magpies but credit to the visitors they silenced crowd for long periods and I actually thought they were the better team over the 80 minutes but didn’t nail a few fundamentals not to mention kicking your their ball away with 2 minutes to go
For the Bay Naitoa AhKuoi was a colossus , he put so much pressure on the Magpies lineout in the 2nd half they had no real opportunity to mount continuous forward momentum which is the Magpies go to
Well done to the Bay though and all the best for the semis

@Steven-Harris Agree with all of that - the domain is cute but inadequate and I'm not sure we'll ever get around to a new stadium to be honest. Main advantage over the old speedway stadium is the ability to have a drink and food before the game and then walk to the game. Only one entrance is no good when you have a lot of people without tickets as well as everyone turning up 10 minutes before kick-off.

I thought we'd lost it in the first half when we didn't take our chances and ended up trailing - with the wind generally behind you, we struggled to make any ground against a keen defence. But you kept giving us one more chance and eventually we took it. We'll have to treasure possession much more against Canterbury as well as being ruthless.

I can't stand the Domain as a venue. The queues were annoying but did move fast. A city like Tauranga needs to be better than that!

It's a lot less than that in actual seating, especially as the temporary stand has shrunk to allow corporates above it. I think there were officially 3.7K there on Saturday and many of them were spread around the running track where you can't really get a decent view of the game.

They have not - in the unlikely event that we beat Canterbury and Waikato beats Wellington, I presume they will move the final to Rotorua to play it on Saturday night.

Don't think the final will be played on Saturday night as it clashes with the AB v Japan game.

Would be cool if the final was a day game.

I think this is the investment challenge. Aside from everywhere being short of cash these days, for Tauranga it'll be a major project essentially for NPC games.

I'd love to see some upgrades, but I'm not sure that the recent Stadium proposal will fly within the next decade either.

from what mum and dad were telling me, the unelected "council" committed all the money to an unnecessary downtown upgrade.

What is capacity - 5 or 6 thousand? About right for NPC these days?

I think this is the investment challenge. Aside from everywhere being short of cash these days, for Tauranga it'll be a major project essentially for NPC games.

I'd love to see some upgrades, but I'm not sure that the recent Stadium proposal will fly within the next decade either.

from what mum and dad were telling me, the unelected "council" committed all the money to an unnecessary downtown upgrade.

Challenge is - there were plenty of people who felt that way about the Stadium proposal at the Domain. Last I've heard of it the can has just been kicked down the road again...

Just had a look - https://www.nzherald.co.nz/bay-of-plenty-times/news/new-tauranga-stadium-to-be-delivered-in-stages-construction-pushed-back-to-2033/2OZFJWAOFVAMJFBC3FDU63FNOY/ has some of the plans... "2033", and:

Of the 1189 responses, 56 per cent wanted the stadium removed from the long-term plan.

There were 43 per cent of responses that supported a stadium either staged or delivered in one go. The stadium was also met with opposition from affected sports clubs and the public during the LTP hearings in February.

The Tauranga Bowls Club, Tauranga Croquet Club and Athletics Tauranga would need to be relocated from the domain at a cost of $21m.

Were some unhappy Clubs in the mix too. Some with a demographic who have plenty of time and interest in taking on a Council...
