Some general updates
Politics Subform
It's gone
Too many complaints/shitty behaviour and less and less people were reading it. 'Contentious Threads' section was a last ditch attempt to fix things. It failed.
Apologies to @MiketheSnow @Catogrande @pakman @Victor-Meldrew etc The UK thread was good, if all the others were like there wouldn't have been a problem
Also we have some changes coming up over the next few months which are more likely to be successful without that sub forum
So no chat about politics, politicians, elections, foreign policy, wars, climate change please
I'll move a couple of threads over to 'Off Topic' like the tranny one as that impacts sport
New Server
A new server has been purchased
I'll be doing a practise migration this weekend and hopefully the real one early next week
That will give us a decent hardware speed boost, a few more methods for combating bots/AI scrapers etc. Also we have been stuck on an older version of the software for ~12months because of some prerequisites.
After that I'll open up the forum to the public again
New Toys
Lots of new features coming
Me and @Kirwan have put aside some time for coding TSF enhancements. We have a list of new stuff we're working our way through that we want to use ourselves
I think we're already the best place to keep track of the NPC. The new stuff should make that lead even bigger

Just to add to Duluth's post, I think the Politics threads were the most useful during the Covid lockdowns to allow people to let off steam. It was a pain in the arse to moderate (the rest of the site barely needs any).
IMO it was time to move the focus back to sport.
I've had a busy start to the year with work, and have been taking a break from the Fern. Thankfully, that's returning to normal and I can get back to updating you all about Akira Ioane.
Coming back, it's been great to see the quality of the information in sports threads. Highlights to me that forums still have a place on the interwebs, especially as hubs around shared interests.
We have some interesting stuff planned, as we start rolling things out we'll get your feedback to keep improving it.

It's interesting how that evolves.. A few years ago Otago/Highlanders threads were a bit shit. A handful of quality posters have completely changed that

Huge thanks to you guys for hosting and moderating those Politics threads over the years. I have found them really useful, particularly over Covid, but so often certain threads would just degenerate into snide remarks and playing the man not the ball, so must have been a nightmare to stay on top of.
Agree on the quality of the sports forum, the analysis here has always been a lot better than the mainstream sports media (low bar I know), but there's a lot of daylight between the two now. Also the separate forum for match threads has been a big success too.

As @MiketheSnow has said, an Economics thread could be good. Plenty of good discussions around that and investing in the past
