Cheap dog shot from Finau. Peni every right to be pissed off. Finau really starting to get a reputation

Brave of him to go after someone a similar size. He normally likes to focus his cheap shots on 85 - 90kg 10s.

Faletoi Peni is a classy a rugby player i could see the quality of this player when i covered the Auckland club rugby scene back in 2022 when he was the best midfielder bar none
He was that good Manukau Rovers dont win back to back titles if hes not at that club
Has the most instictive rugby brain that only the best players have

    What has counted against him?

Is it that he doesn't have a typical frame for a 12, perceived training issues, or speed? Or a little bit of all of those as well as the desire to push forward with the next in-line NZ U20s rep?

There must be a few fuys like him running around in Auckland

@SouthernMann not an expert here. But I recall he turned up in fairly poor nick to southland last season.

Still played exceptionally well. But I recall fitness was an issue back then. Seems to have worked through that, but sometimes a reputation sticks with you once you get it.

Not a bad game game given the conditions. Southland’s attacking structure is one of the best if not the best I’ve seen so far this year.

A tad unlucky to not be in front.

@SouthernMann there was always that perception he was never fit enough or did’nt quite fit the mould
I had seen Faletoi at Kelston Boys ,he went down to CM and played for Ardmore Marist but was wanted by CM and returned to Auckland and Manukau Rovers
Auckland coaches unfortunately could not see his talent i tried like hell to get toi up to Northland but unfortunetly this is what happens when a perception about a player is spread around

@handa457 do you reckon the late Norm Berryman would have done a sub 5 minute bronco ?

Auckland coaches have no idea. Their coaching and scouting is the worst in the country

@Steven-Harris I'm not defending the perception. Only acknowledging it exists.

I've been a huge advocate of the highlanders signing him since last season, and it annoys me by all accounts I've heard on here that they've let him slip through their fingers.
