i know on paper (the result this year, finishing 1 and 2 etc) things say this should be close...but it will always feel like david and goliath to me, we could have finished first and i would feel like a massive underdog

Good to see old mate Dan highjack a thread about the final to talk about how much NPC is better than Super. Loves a hobbiehorse.

Great crowd for Otago on the weekend. Compared to Highlanders crowds, would have sat right down at the bottom for 2025 attendances. For the team that finished last.

Don't get me wrong, more than five times the attendance compared to games when people still thought Otago was shit though.

Yep will always remind people how good it is! Tell you what And don't care if you don't like it as much. Especially this week.
But on game, I pleased if weather is good on Saturday, as I suspect that will help Otago. Though I strongly suspect the Canterbury team just might have an advantage as they got players experienced in finals rugby,

Dude. I have watched plenty of the competition this year. It is just getting boring when in order to pump up your favourite comp, you need to call the other one shit and say no one likes it. It is tiring. Be an NPC fan sure. There is no need to be a broken record about Super.

Dan never fear my uso Christian Lio-Willie has plenty of finals experience, this year he outplayed Sotutu in a semi final & absolutely owned Wallace Sititi in the super final, sure CLW was excommunicated from the ABs after the French series but it just adds motivation. I'm expecting nothing less than a herculean shift from the Dentist with a Dream 🫡

Where did I call anything shit? By all means show me where I said that, because I prefer NPC isn't saying Super shit, or I don't enjoy it. I prefer NPC to Gallagher championship too , but enjoy that also. It's a bloody good 3rd tier comp, and doesn't get credit from some, especially overseas, why I compared the numbers with Brisbane etc.

True Grooter, I forgot about him😁 < I must admit I reasonably neutral, but will be cheering for Otago. Couple of mates at golf club Otago boys, but mainly because I so excited to see their young fellas coming through!

@Dan54 Now look up the crowds Irish provincial teams get these days in an island of 7 million people.

To be fair, Leinster's crowds kindof disappeared after they got knocked out by the Saints in the European Cup.

URC QF attendance in Dublin = 12,800 (the Aviva holds 52,000)
URC SF attendance in Dublin = 15,700

Dexcom (Connacht) only holds 8,000 people. Ravenhill (Ulster) feels like it's under construction 24/7.

The supporter breakdown will be interesting. I’m anticipating at least 4K Otago fans.

    The day is finally here.

Been a long time in the making for us Otago fans. Safe to say no one expected the season to go as it has. I said at the end of the round robin that any win from there on out would be a bonus, I sure as hell didn’t expect to be in the final when I said that.

Super proud of how this season has gone and the strides being made in Otago rugby. Hope the boys can go the whole way! Either way, it’s been a season to remember and the future looks bright.

The 2 best teams in the comp, the weather is brilliant, looking forward to being in the stands for this one.

    Bring it home boys!

That is a decent crowd, I love the fact that NPC is getting crowds like that even allowing for it a final.
With the population of Christchurch that is like the equivalent of getting about 65-70000 in a city like Brisbane etc.
Was something I kind of notice, the naysayers etc that post that the crowds are not great. Compare populations of most places and even normal round robin games you get decent crowds compared to population. Leaves super well behind. I actually pleased to hear yesterday, while talking to woman who was cutting my hair, (she enjoys rugby etc) and she was saying how much more she enjoys NPC than super , and for her it even more enjoyable than tests. It really is a great comp.

does really shine a light on the 90's though, +30k for the 98 final at the brooke and the population was obviously slightly smaller

A reminder this is an afternoon kickoff. 4pm local time.

Jesus, I thought this was kicking off at the usual 5pm too. Need to restructure my day now.

    Go Otago.

The ghost of all those last minute losses to Canty during my uni years says it's Otago's time to shine

How do you call it a sellout and have a huge section empty?

    Good contest so far.

Otago are going to have to take and extra step in defence

I think it's fancy maths also known as Warriors crowd counting.
