I've registered my interest, but there are precious few games worth the travel expense. Unless i get tickets to the Wallabies game i doubt i will bother
Yep Mariner apart from Wallabies , I can't see too much interest in the pool games. Well except in maybe countries like HK and Chile .

Both the winner and runner up of pool A play their round of 16 match in Brisbane, then their QFs in Sydney.
Winner of pool A plays on the Saturdays and runner up plays on Sundays. -

The All Blacks’ round of 16 game will be in Brisbane assuming they top their pool.
A home test for the ABs then.

Looking at those games, I am unconvinced about the 24 nations World Cup. There are going to be a lot of very one-sided games that will be over as a contest inside the first 20 minutes.
WR wants more playoff games, so one-sided pool games is the consequence.

been saying it for years....make qualifying a bigger deal so smaller countries have some home games against larger opposition, bit of home support....dont have to travel etc....raise the profile in those countries....but keep the RWC proper as a tight elite competition

@KiwiMurph im no expert so people feel free to ignore me...just feels like a greater good situation, growing the sports fan base has to trump the four yearly cash grab...plus the original point, move the blow outs off the big stage

fuck Perth. It's at the ass end of nowhere. Why do they "deserve" it?
Also, they still get a Wallaby game, an AB game, a saffer game (to keep all the "locals" happy) and arguably the 2nd best game of the pool stages in Ireland v Scotland. They also get 2 round of 16 games. They've hardly been ignored.
Just a whinge for whinging sake.

Shitty way to treat Perth taking the Wallabies-All Blacks game from them. Local rugby fans have every right to be spitting mad.
"Taking" something they never had? (And were never going to get... )
Need to kick off with a win, chances of that v ABs? less than 50%.
Alternative? Play very rich outpost in similar timezone, full of affluent exPat rugby supporters willing to travel whilst guaranteeing win to kick off the tournament. Not to mentioning opening a small door to a Chinese market.
Your indignation is misplaced.
And WA get an ABs game too. Us Qld residents are spitting mad.

I don't see the problem with the scheduling. We gotta play HK and Chile at some point, and the hype for the ABs Wallabies match can be built up a little bit more, with Sydney holding 20,000+ more fans than Perth.
-
Fuck the ES.
Could sink into the f'n sea for all i care.
When the wall went up during covid, they shoulda left it up.
Keep those ES fuckers out.
The just leechin. -
things are starting to add up

I'm lookin at the bigger RWC picture.
Much more than how many dollars they are guna squeeze out of match day patrons.
Actual match-day revenue is the minor money maker in any competition nowadays (20 to 30% in an EPL fixture); sponsorship and broadcasting make up the majority.
I'm lookin at the RWC v the fickle Aussie sports market as a whole.
An Aus victory v NZ in the very first match would guarantee that all Aus sports fans will be fully engaged in the comp from the get go.
Worth a lot more than the chicken feed amount of extra dollars they'll make playin round with the schedule.
Aus v HK . . . the Aus GP are not even guna notice.
Rugby (union) . . . faithful to their amateur legacy . . . no F'n idea how to run a show. -

The possibility of a NZ v Aus fixture for the first match only became real a couple of months ago.
Could only happen when Aus dropped down to seven in the rankings.
That made sure the Wobs were going to have a very big game in their pool; could just as easily have been Fra/SA/Eng.
An Aus v Eng match up would possibly have been an even bigger draw for the Aus GP, than NZ.Caused by the lack of seedings in the draw . . . already discussed thoroughly.
If it was seeded, the big game would have been v Argentina.A seeded draw into the pools would have meant :
SA v Japan
NZ v Wales
Eng v Italy
Ire v Scot
Fra v Fiji
