Did Conway want to be there? Absolute nothing shot, just threw the bat out there with soft hands. Only thing that could have happened was an edge.

Agree on the nothing shot, but there was certainly late swing. Didn't know where his stumps were, thought he had to play, played away from his body with no feet movement, ball swung even further outside off, voila.

    @sparky said in Ireland v All Blacks - Chicago2:

@Chris-B In the 2008 Grand Slam tour, the All Blacks only conceded 24 points and not a single try.

Of course, that 2008 team had the fabulous Crusaders McCaw and Carter wearing the 7 and 10 jerseys, while this outfit has to make do with the ex-Hurricanes Savea and Barrett.

I presume that "absolutely, positively" slogan is long gone from the capital? 🙂

Finally we've found the answer. Tom Christie and Mo'unga, obviously.

@bayimports said in BOP v Hawkes Bay:

Funny how this game is now played with the intensity like a Ranfurly Shield match these days.

Thought knock ons were clearly not in the refs rule book today and perhaps due to conditions often against what everyone else was seeing. Probably went more against Hawkes Bay than for us though.

Not a pretty game at all and FT whistle didnt come at the right time for us, or should I say we didnt set up when we probably should have as we had momentum. Then it changed in golden point it was very one sided.

Well done Hawkes Bay well deserved

    Agree on the Shield point.

Funnily enough I saw more missed knock-ons/forward passes from The Bay than BOP.

Ref communicated well though, picked up a few late tackles others may have missed also.

    Some thoughts:

Sullivan was class all game, especially with the boot. He looks frustratingly lazy at times, but I get the feeling that's more his running style than his actual effort. Excellent positional play all game, turned up at all the threatening BOP kicks.

Parsons was a beast all game, couple of visible efforts from quick ball at the ruck initially but plenty of work in tight too, including a crucial maul turnover at the end.

Two ridiculous 50-22s, Sullivan's went from his own 22 to 15 out on the other side of the park, and McClutchie's (after what looked like a missed knock-on?) somehow squirted over the 22 and the touchline on its last couple of rolls - he kicked it under pressure from a metre in from touch.

Our lineout killed us all game.

Defence excellent, attack OK, but discipline shoddy. If the ref is policing 1ft behind where you think the line is, take a step back. Got pinged so many times for it among other dumb shite.

Brilliant debut for Lasaqa - well done that man.

Roe is with the squad going by that article, surely they're not looking for someone else beyond that for this week?

  • Northland v Hawkes Bay
  • D delicatessen

Good close game with some excellent D from Northland when it mattered.

Cooper Flanders is an excellent athlete but there were a few hungus moments in there. There's no need to run directly in to contact when there's only one defender within 10 metres of you.

Godfrey continued to play more as a fullback than 10.

Fakatava did what he does very well, but there was a marked improvement in cohesion and flow in attack when Enari came on.

Grigg gets a hell of a lot of rugby out of that frame of his. Had no right to score when he did, and made smart decisions with ball in hand consistently.

Scrum got monstered which is a concern, we're supposed to have some firepower there.

The reffing was a crapshoot - clear obstruction by the decoy runner on one of Northland's tries for example. Shouldn't have mattered though, we should've put it well out of his hands with the opportunities we had.

Imminently beatable. Main strike weapons are the maul and the scrum and Arendse (5 tries in 2 tests against Oz), bugger

Imminently beatable. Amongst their arsenal are such diverse weapons as:
    the maul and scrum
    Arendse (5 from 2) and
Fassi and Moodie (each 1 from 1)

Also shouldn’t forget the hot hand of Edwill van der Merwe (5 tries in 3 tests for the Boks) aaargh …

I’ll come in again [exit and immediate reentry]

Imminently beatable. Their ever-expanding arsenal is easily underestimated but contains such diverse weapons as:
    the maul and scrum
The tryscoring threats of Arendse (5 from 2), Fassi and Moodie (each 1 from 1)
Along with the hot hand of Edwill van der Merwe (5 tries in 3 tests for the Boks)
To say nothing of two-time and current world player of the year PSDT

    Bugger.

They are beatable if you can nullify their many and diverse threats.

There's that kicking game all his supporters love to talk up.

I was one of those when he left lol. Certainly was never his main drawcard tho.

Adams the only Rocket with a positive +/- in that game. And it was genuine impact, they cut the lead from 20ish to 5ish while he was on the floor, Warriors couldn't keep him off the O boards and he ran some of the offence to good effect. Unsure why they benched him though he was likely gassed.

    Son Mitch = Great
Dad Mitch = Cockwomble who didn't pick CC for the 2003 RWC

some reason i was assuming Bad Mitch was Satnav (who i know the fern loves very much)

I love the interview where Son Mitch said he was furious and refused to speak to Dad Mitch after he left CC out of the squad. Great that he even copped it from his own son for that.

Look he's a great player, but I can't be alone in thinking Caleb Clarke was a bit raw still in '03?
