I watched This Is England the other day, on the reccomendation of a friend. I thought it was very good, has no big name actors, but all play their parts well.
It's basically the story of 12/13 year old growing up in England in 1983, with Thatcher and the Falklands War as the back drop. He gets involved with a group of teenage skinheads, which then leads to his affiliation with 'Combo', who promotes his white supremacist/ nationalist agenda within the teenagers.

A somewhat depressing coming of age tale thats very well done, uncomfortable viewing at times, but a brilliantly told story, that gives an insight into both the growth of the nationalist movement after the Falklands and the rise of 'thug' culture in Britain.

Released in 2006, its timing was poignant as the issue of British multiculturalism was brought to public attention in the wake of the 7/7 Bomings the previous year.
I thought it was a bloody good film. I would just mention that the group he hung out with at first weren't racists/nationalists, but just a bunch of people who hang out together and listen to music etc. I think it the movie shows the change well.

The little boy on it kind of scared me though - I thought he was younger than 12-13.
Yes my mistake Nepia. I dont think any of the younger generation of the skinheads were racists or nationalists (hence why Woody left when Combo pressed his agenda), just sought social acceptance which they didnt receive otherwise. The young boy who got bullied joined, the fat teenager who got picked on joined etc.

Yeah he looked about 8, but aparently he was 12 in the film (according to Wikipedia), and 13 in real life when it was shot. The scene of him with that older girl reminded me of that story about the 13 year old father a while back.....disturbing stuff.
