This England performance has become something of a pattern recently. Big wins followed by an enormous tonking thanks to an abject all round performance. Wasteful with the ball and wasteful with the bat.

Part of me is actually glad this has happened as this is a fairer reflection of where this team actually is, Crawley is a slogger who shouldn't still be in the team. Stokes might be a good captain but I'm not sure he deserves to be in the team on his cricketing ability / form otherwise.
Overall, it shows how test cricket has evolved, teams don't grind games out anymore, when it starts to go wrong they have a bit of a swing and then go and play golf when it doesn't work. Batsmen can't just stay in and wait for the shine to go off the ball. Bazball is the most obvious example but it seems to be true of all teams. Assume 20:20 means players don't bother learning patience anymore.

I’ve come round to admiring Stokes despite his numbers not really being up with the best all rounders of all time.
A very selfless team man.
You could argue Flintoff was a better all rounder and Beefy was miles ahead of both……but I digress.
I think the approach is great as it means that unless it rains this test is heading for a result, looking extremely good for NZ barring a Root/Brook miracle.
Test cricket needed to be more exciting and Bazball ensures that but if shit hits the fan it is extremely hard to picture someone grinding it out for a day and a half for an honourable, gutsy draw.
It’s a bit of an evolution on how Australia were playing in the early 2000s. I love it but adaptability doesn’t seem to be in McCullums playbook.

I have to admit, I hate bazball.
If losses don't matter, or draws don't matter, then do wins matter?
But mostly, I hate seeing my bowlers getting carted around for 90 overs ....
Also, as a fan of bowling and the real reason I watch cricket at all , I find dismissals caught in the ring or outfield as sexy as susan boyle dressed as a page boy.
But, secretly, I suspect it actually kind of works. Certainly it is more effective than the terrible top 3 England had in the 3 or 4 years before bazball. E.g. bazball-Crawley is 50% better than non-bazball-Crawley. And I suspect NZ would have found similar for Martin Guptill.
However. On Indian dustbowls I think bazball is great fun, and I think it is a good approach. Despit NZ winning 3 nil with orthodox and classy Will Young approach. So, ... fuck knows ???

I read a few weeks back that there had only been one draw all year, and that was in a rain-affected test (WI vs SA in WI). Brisbane might end up being another for the same reason but otherwise there is almost always a result now.

20/20 Cricket is creeping more and more in to test cricket it is where the money is and younger people are staying engaged because there is results and stroke play.
I am a traditionalist Appreciate the hard graft and working for your runs a battle of attrition.
Players coming through the systems don't think or want to play that way they see the bright lights and dollar signs of the IPL and Big Bash.
Even at State underage levels players are playing expansively they like to hit the cover off the ball.
Now and again you find a grafter normally because they don't have the power or technique to play any other way.
It is here to stay and probably has to for test Cricket to survive in 10 years.Crowds have stayed strong or picked up where crowds were down in some countries over the last 3 years.
We will probably end up with 4 day test cricket down the line and more innovation. -

Other than weather it's getting rarer that a test goes to day 5 now

How is our catching so, so poor. That's just regulation, should be taken 10 times out of 10. Awful stuff.
