Definitely a flush the toilet season. The 9ers will have to decide whether to pay Brock or not

Saw a theory that this season is basically where you're seeing the cost of the Lance bust. Because they were a good team getting good QB play from Purdy they'd been able to wear the damage but this is the point where they'd probably have another couple of contributors (from the traded away firsts) starting to establish themselves as part of the core, but instead you've got the same guys trying to do it year after year.

Even when 49ers are having a down season they are never dull

With their season on the line in the 3rd quarter and their starting linebacker Greenlaw getting hurt backup linebacker Campbell refused to play when he was needed and went to the locker room.

        Absolutely insane

If we decided to quit before the game they could have made another linebacker active - instead he quits mid game.

The final nail in the coffin. Deebo is a complete shell of himself and Purdy's limitations were all on display. Was pleasing see Greenlaw look like his old self in the first half though.

Cracking game between Broncos and Bengals. NFL throws out great entertainment week after week. Burrow is some player.

Not every game. But every week there are crackers.

                That game was horrific

Should never have gone into overtime. The game would've been won early doors if we could catch.

Still, finals hopes are still alive.

Now that I'm a Seahawks supporter, I had to watch an highlights package of that.
And yes, There was indeed an highlights package available. Over 8 minutes long. I know I'm new to this sport and still figuring it out, but.... What...? How...?

Interesting sub plot in the otherwise meaningless yet entertaining 49ers Lions game today:

Purdy came out injured near the end of the game and has an elbow injury to throwing shoulder - noting that 2 years ago he missed 6 months from elbow surgery to the same elbow after suffering a torn UCL.

Purdy is eligible for a huge new contract this offseason but his play this season has been poor.

I like Purdy as a dude and generally as a player but you cannot justify paying him elite $. This new injury could throw a cat amongst the pigeons.

If you pay a guy max money you should expect him to be capable of carrying the offence. Not sure Brock can based on this season

Be interesting to see where the final AFC playoff spot goes. Broncos have the advantage, being win-and-your-in and the Chiefs likely to rest Mahomes and maybe more players.

Dolphins need a Broncos loss and a win over the Jets (who specialise in pointless week 18 wins long after elimination from the playoff race).

Bengals need both Broncos and Dolphins to lose and then a win over the Steelers. Toughest path, but would be an incredible recovery from 0-3.

On the Purdy contract, he's never looked like a guy that you could sustain success while paying him top of the market money. If the 49ers were better this year I could have seen him taking tier 2 money (say 45m per year), along with a long deal and good guarantees, since he's earned so litte, but with the 49ers a bit of a rabble this year you wonder if he might be tempted to test free agency. I don't think there's really any better landing spots though.

I'd compare him to Dak Prescott. A solid, reliable QB but not able to consistently take over a game in tough situations the way the truly elite QBs can. The cowboys have had some tough years and I think there will be more in the future because of the terrible deal they gave him.

Purdy still has an extra year on his rookie deal left so he's not really in a position to test free agency.

The news today is the elbow injury for Purdy is nothing long term.

Cracking game between Bengals and Steelers.

Bengals get it done while Steelers throw away multiple chances with unforced drops towards the end.
Huge errors on special teams by both sides. Neither looks like going deep into the playoffs.

Purdy still has an extra year on his rookie deal left so he's not really in a position to test free agency.

The news today is the elbow injury for Purdy is nothing long term.

Ah yeah, I'd forgotten the window to extend a rookie opens the year before they hit free agency.

All the cards with the 49ers then. He's earned nothing, has had a few injuries and still fighting the perception that he's a system quarterback. Plus even if he lights up next season, they can still tag him at least once without the price going crazy, maybe even twice. An offer with decent guarantees but a law AV would be a really tough one for him to pass up. If he has Kirk Cousins' confidence he'll stare them down, but that can go very wrong.

On the other hand, He'll have earned about 4m (maybe more, not sure if performance escalators apply for 7th rounders), and can probably earn a ton through endorsements with the crazy Mr Irrelevant storyline. He's not going to be that hard up any time, and despite this year, he's still in probably the best place he can realistically be to compete for rings. Maybe he'll take a left out of Brady's book and be happy with a lower offer (30-35m say) and hope that the extra flexibility to surround him with talent gets the 49ers across the line.

thank you to the Chiefs for playing their cleaning and admin staff on Sunday. Broncos overachieve massively to make post season football. Of course, we are off to Buffalo where Josh Allen wall put on a clinic, but considering what this year was supposed to be, we're playing with house money.

It's firing season in the NFL, and this didn't disappoint.

The Bengals fired everyone who touched the defense (DC, DL and LB coach) also their OL coach
                                          Raiders fired their head coach
                                          Browns fired their OC
                                          Jags fired their HC
Patriots were the first to jump firing their HC (terrible decision unless Kraft has someone lined up)
                                          Titans fired their GM
                                          Seahawks fired their OC

A few who were perhaps a touch nervous kept their jobs in Miami and Indianapolis (though the Colts sacked their DC).

You would think the Jags is the best job on that board?
