This guy averages 37 in both disciplines at FC level. So he’s a good batsman and an adequate bowler. All rounder is a term that gets thrown round way too much.

    Those are career averages

The last 18 months he has been putting up all rounder numbers

In 2023-24 he had a break-out season topping the Sheffield Shield runscoring chart with 938 runs at 58.62. He also took 30 wickets at 29.30 to help Tasmania reach the Shield final. He became just the second player behind Sir Garfield Sobers, in 1963-64, to score more than 900 runs and take more than 30 wickets in the same Shield season.

In addition in the recent Aus A vs India A matches he scored 61* in game 1 and 46* in game 2 whilst picking up 6 wickets in game 2

Fair enough. Definitely better than anything Marsh has done as I mentioned.

Jeepers, being compared to Sobers is ok huh ?

Has he started bowling more ? 148 wickets in 93 matches isn’t many. Assuming he’s turning the arm over more now ?

While Australia has provided a who’s who of amazing batsmen and bowlers over the last 20 years alone perhaps this reinforces they haven’t had a brilliant All Rounder for ages.

( finds some kiwi straws to clutch…..)

    We’ve had three.

Webster has now bowled 7 overs in a day

Marsh only bowled 33 the whole series

@MN5 I'll die on my 'Kallis was grossly underrated as an allrounder' hill here. His numbers were elite for both batting and bowling. And he did it forever.

    He was just kinda boring

    Who is underrating Kallis ?

In the Lara/Tendulkar/Ponting/Dravid league as a batsman and about as good as Chris Martin with the ball just for shits and gigs.

    Extraordinary player.

No country has produced as many amazing all rounders as SA

Oram was an odd player in that statistically he put up some impressive numbers but aesthetically I could never quite take to him - for such a big man his bowling action was so dainty and lacked the pace you would expect and his batting whilst effective was heavily reliant on slogging the ball to certain parts of the ground.

Yeah his batting kinda regressed as I recall, he ended up batting nine in an ODI on one occasion.

I think James Franklin ( who did the reverse in that his bowling suffered while his batting improved slightly ) and Ian Butler ( who was promoted as a bit of a pinch hitter ) were ahead of him.

The Neesh is another who should have had a far longer test career, our answer to Stokes or so I thought

Nothing wrong with a hug, a kiss, a lick, a grope on the arse or a dry root.

He’s done well to sneak to third on the list…..although look at some of the other chumps on there.

But the three I didn’t mention have him beat ( as all rounders, only one of them beats him purely on bowling )

Excellent bowling performance by Australia. They have seized the initiative in this Test in Day One.

Don’t underestimate what Bumrah might do.

Lots of pressure on him once again though. I wonder anyone else will step up ?

You think Hazelwood will be getting a tad nervous about his spot in the home Ashes next summer?
