Could be wrong but wasn't his pay decrease due to him not making the All Blacks?
I always thought he was a wrecking ball but didn't offer a lot else, he tried the kicking game and wasn't too bad.
His 2016 and 2017 seasons for the Canes were unreal and I'll never forget the game against the Blues in 2020 in Welly. Pretty good at Super level.
Whilst I like people standing up for themselves, he had a massive chip on his shoulder and I swear his most searched on Google was his own name, he said he was humble but was the exact opposite. He probably should have just ignored everything and put his head down a little more but what the fuck do I know.
Also always remember him having a dig at everyone not playing for their smaller unions in the NPC then signing for the club based in Paris.

he was pretty much a one trick pony, didnt really perform as hoped in his limited shots in black.
It was pretty clear around his time we needed someone like him at that level, but they werent interested in Laumape and they often tried to use Goodhue as you'd expect to use Laumape.
I'd still prefer a Laumape to a Havili. Atleast he provides a point of difference and he had plenty of potential to grow.

A different style of player to Havili but pretty the same outcome - a flat track bully who isn't world class.
He went missing in big games for the Canes and whilst he had limited opportunities in black - he never stamped his mark there either.

@KiwiMurph yeah as soon as he got distracted by the "haterz" (of which, there were none), it kinda became evident he wasn't going to push on.

Yes you're wrong, he was still in the ABs, but the coaches didn't rate him enough for his current pay packet, I guess. So he left, fair enough.

@Canes4life haha I've said that to my mates in the group chat a few times. Who would have thought the Canes would have the starting AB tighthead and reserve in an AB 23! Good stuff.
Re: Godfrey - yes absolutely agree he should be our 10 based on the current squad. Love to remain at 15.
Cashmore to cover 10 from the pine.
Hohepa you'd think is 3rd choice? He actually has the most Super experience at 10. It would be a very Canes move to have him as the starter.
I'm guessing should any of those 3 go down, they bring Harkin in (he's presumably WTG).
Next year will be Godfrey's third year in the squad so he's just as ready as Cashmore to jump in as a starter. Hopefully Laidlaw sees the pecking order the same as us.
I still go back to the Crusaders pre season game from two years ago when Roigard and Godfrey were a combination. The Canes put on a clinic with both of those two players running amuck, playing free-flowing attacking rugby. I think let's chuck him the reigns and see how he performs. Nothing to lose and plenty to gain in my view. If it goes tits up, then we can throw the more reserved Cashmore into that role. Hohepa only if we get a raft of injuries.
@Canes4life like your thinking

Happens a lot in sports and general life, sometimes think we are worth more than the people who actually pay our wages think.

Maybe Laumape reads this forum and was having a dig at the people on Here?

Oh come on, no need to have a go at his intelligence.

But you'd probably need that nut. Not sure one would be enough for ALL the mademoiselles.

Such a cool idea by Chris Laidlaw. Canes players have been billeted out to families in Wanganui for a week before they head up to New Plymouth.

Hurricanes vs Chiefs pre season update.
Chiefs take the early lead through a try to Bradley Slater.
D Flanders yellow carded in the first 6 mins.
-
B Slater goes in again to make it 12-0. Hurricanes look to be making plenty of mistakes and their discipline is costing them.
-
Leo Carter in for the Chiefs. 17-0 kick to come.
Hohepa sounds like he’s having a horrible game. Wtf did we sign this guy.

Cynically killing the ball from a line break. He was also replaced by Iose so it was always 15 v 15.
Kirifi is continuing on his NPC form at the breakdown.
-
Canes back in it with two quick tries after the half. One to Banks and one to Flanders. Apparently Higgins set up Banks for his try beautifully with a cut out pass.
17-12 to the Chiefs.
-
Harry Godfrey goes in to even things up. 17-17
