Assistant coach Jamie Mackintosh confirmed Cashmore had torn the medial collateral ligament in his knee and would miss between six to 10 weeks of action. “Lucas came in and was really impressive, great with the group, but unfortunately he picked up a non-contact MCL injury.

Jesus. At least from the article they have Hohepa running in the bench team, with Harkin and Godfrey getting reps in. Are there any WTG 10s or 15s around the country we can pick up

I hope we don’t stick with Hohepa just because he has experience. Godfrey was the better 10 against the Chiefs in pre season so stick with him IMO. I never wish injury on anyone but not having Hohepa available would be a great opportunity for Harkin who’s a better 10 and deserves his opportunity anyway after claiming the NPC crown with Welly.
Ruben out until round 5, good prognosis considering he was meant to be out for most of the campaign.

@Canes4life Yep this could be a break out moment for our boy Harkin. Love cant get back quick enough, a Roigard, Godfrey Love spine will be spectacular

It might take a year or so to gel with Godfrey new to the role but heck they’ll score some spectacular tries. You add a midfield of Higgins and Proctor and then Naholo, Banks on the wings and it’s looking like an exciting backline.
Just need to build depth as we know that’s key.

Not sure the status of Tjay Clarke, but if fit he’s an obvious one. Had a strong NPC and is a player on the rise.

Think we can almost write of our chances this year? Much as we love what Roigard does, without a good 10-12 combo outside him, it is looking grim. I actually probably worried about defence as much as game controllers.

Our forward pack looks primed for a good year.
10 is the obvious problem but it can be rectified pretty quickly once we start getting guys back OR if we play the right guy from the outset ala Godfrey.
12 isn't an issue, Higgins is more than capable and Umaga-Jensen goes well there.
If we can win one of the Crusader or Blues games in the opening three weeks and take care of the Drua at home, things will be alright.

Mate I remain hopeful, but I know how important 10 is. I would love it if we had got Jacomb from here in the Naki, a player I truly believe will be a long term AB in future years. Although I keen on Godfrey, I worry about his ability to actually steer a team around field. If he had been 10 for HB I would of felt better. And Higgins another I hold hope for, he just needs to hold his defence lines .
