Maybe I should have had the cricket on instead of watching yet another depressing Taniwha loss.

Hope we can keep chipping away at them and keep them to a modest total.

Yep chipping away, new ball works for Boulty and we're into their genuine tail.

Boult to Saha, OUT, tip your hat to the bowler and head off for a cup of tea, because that was unplayable. An inswinger that defies the docile pitch and the lack of atmospheric help. It's that SG seam. So prominent. So useful in the hands of a good bowler. Boult pitches it on middle and off and jerks it in through the gap between bat and pad
            WP Saha b Boult 0 (2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

            Tasty.

8 down now! Huge. Best days for batting will be Days 2 and 3, and they'll be ours!

Beautiful Boulty, sharp catch from the moral captain. This is officially now a shithouse batting effort isn't it?

Would be ideal to not have to bat today but wow what an effort by our bolwlers today. Much better than expected

                        Depends, India raped SA 3-0,

                        Indias 1st innings (all batting first) were - 215, 201, 334

Well colour me shocked at that result. Lets hope the boys manage to get that last pesky wicket for under 300.

Early days I know but Santner just seems adept at picking up wickets here and there on a regular basis which can be much more valuable than someone who gets a Michelle once in a blue moon and fuck all in between.

Interesting going through the Indian batting stats, not as awe inspiring as recent history would have us believe. Kohli "only" averages 44, not much considering he's mentioned alongside Root, Smith and our very own KW as the newer generation of batting superstars.

That kept me up later than I wanted. Great work to fight back from 150odd for 1???

Got'em!! Good shit lads. I saw the 5th wicket but was stoked to wake up and hear we have them 9 down. Sure they've got runs on the board but things are looking waaaay better that after that first session.

Although those stats from Gollum re first innings scores v SA are interesting. Fingers crossed we can at least match their score and hopefully get a lead. Batting last will be challenging to say the least!!

Have they though ? anything under 300 ain't much in this day and age especially on a roads like they have in India.

In the context of that SA series and Indian conditions a good 300 and change batting first seems ok. I'm hoping we only have to bat once but ha ha dreams are free.

I do hear ya but I would not have been surprised in the slightest to wake up to hearing they were 350 odd for 3. That Steyn bloke isn't a Black Cap last I heard 😞

Well India really did what I hoped we'd do, bat first and get 300+ with a number of guys chipping in. In saying that, it was a great fightback from the boys to restrict them - very different to the SA series where SA had them on the ropes a number of times but then allowed them to get to something respectable.

We're still in this, but losing the toss has really put us on the back foot despite our fightback. We're going to need 400+ in our first dig, or ideally 500+ so we don't have to bat last which will be more then challenging. If we're chasing 150 or more on the final day we're up against it.

I'm hearing more and more calls for doing away with the toss and just allowing the visiting captain to decide what happens. An interesting idea but I'm not sure I'm completely sold. It is annoying how important it is in a lot of matches though - particularly when the pitch is guaranteed to fall apart come day 5.

It was a really great fightback after a poor start - the curse of the Black Caps bowler, some peaches unfortunately smushed between 2 or 3 pies, which allows a batsman to leave the good and plunder the bad, and before you know it, they are cruising at 6-7 an over.

But they have two important jobs today, one is getting the pesky 10th asap, and two, getting runs on the board without the usual BC opener walk on, walk off cameo. If we can set a great platform and then unleash Ross and Kane...the test gets very, very interesting.
