Great goal but with the ongoing cuts to DOC I wonder how realistic it is? interesting that they are being so ambitious with this goal compared to how they are approaching river and water quality benchmarks. I'd have thought both would be incredibly hard (and expensive) yakka, but well worth it.

I've had a little bit to do with Zealandia and it has matured into an awesome place. Our mates live nearby and there are a bunch of juvenile Kaka that bomb their hill on their way into the city to look for kai. Crazy that people are complaining about the dawn and evening chorus - like folks that buy inner city apartments (with single glazing) and then moan about noise!!

There's always dickheads like that around, the morons who built houses near the speedway and then complained about the noise were no better.

This unfortunate woman came around to my mates house on a Sunday morning to try and get him to sign a petition to get the red light turned off that planes use to guide themselves to the airport as it was keeping her up at night . He had a stinking hangover and apparently his response was incredibly excoriating according to his flat mate , I would have paid good money to be there .
And the airport told her to move house if she didn't want live near the light .

ffs, those people give me the shits aye. There was an older couple that lived near Bodega bar (wellies), they moved in AFTER the bar moved there from it's old upper willis street premises. Always feels like our inner city bars and restaurants have to carry the can as the council doesn't set decent guidelines for sound proofing - and the people buying don't sort their shit out ahead of time, or ignore the sound pollution issue until they experience a weekend in town!

On a (historical) tangent that was my big issue with former mayor Prendergast. She would abstain from big decisions about that sort of stuff as her husband was a property developer. So she'd say she was avoiding a conflict of interest and leave it to others.

there is a golf course up here, been there for over 100 years, and there was some property development on the neighbouring farmland in the early 90s...the old bints that live in one of the houses right by one of the greens of a shortish par 4, and its almost like they sit there waiting for you to step on their lawn to retrieve your ball that is just sitting there 2m form the boundary so they can have a go at you...they don't even have a fence, just a wee 1ft high border of plants that you step over.

Don't think you can beat the people who live near Eden Park for sheer numptiness. When I was at Uni, local body stories were a compulsory part of one paper, and we had to attend several ratepayer meetings. Cos they were nearby, I went to several in the Kingsland/Grey Lynn area. Jesus fuck.

Man v rat: could the long war soon be over? | Jordan Kisner

The Long Read: Rats spread disease, decimate crops and very occasionally eat people alive. For centuries, we have struggled to find an effective way of controlling their numbers. Until now …

@Billy-Tell if they want to stop rats rooting wouldn't it be easier to make up a bunch of tiny wedding rings for the female ones?

That's not really feasible is it? It would be much simpler and more effective if we just fed the bitches wedding cake. That seems to do the fucking job.

We have noticed more rats about the past few weeks, mainly just eating the scraps of chicken food we put out. They dont seem to be stealing our chicken eggs though.

Anyway, we put out a few traps as well as a bait station...caught 3 rats in the first 2 days, 2 mice, although I suspect a rat has eaten the body of the mouse as all I found was a head in a trap...hadnt had anything for days, then today, I check the traps and one has disappeared, so me thinks the rat queen decided she wanted some peanut butter and got her head snapped and cruised off with my trap!!
