@Bones It is sweet, with a distinct caramel flavor, but it is also a lot sharper. Very punchy with the umami. Maybe the two balance themselves out?

EDIT: definitely not smoky, but I never got that from the UK marmite. Maybe I am insensitive to that flavour?

@Tim I think UK marmite is probably pretty similar to Vegemite, I can't really think what the difference might be now...seems a bit deeper and less sharp.

@Bones Maybe I have some kind of psychological association, but vegemite to me tastes like a distinct, and unpleasant, flavour that dominates when I have a cold. Probably psychological! Really strong but in a completely off putting way. Not a classic MSG/umami taste.
