NZR say no to ANZAC day tests.

Bledisloe's don't sell out in Australia. Not in Sydney, anyway.
Yeah, that big ass stadium in Sydney always has plenty of space.
Sold out (essentially) the others in recent years.
-
I think the general view from Australia is the Bledisloe has gotten a bit stale. And before you start shouting, yes that's entirely because our team isn't very good. Nobody denies that.
So RA are looking to give it a fresh coat of paint. Putting it on Anzac Day would be a way of doing that - different time, different feel, putting the game in a slightly different emotional and seasonal context.
I don't feel strongly either way on it, I don't think anyone really does here. Might be nice to try but we've all got more important things to be focussed on (namely the Tahs march to the Super title).

thats kind of what i was thinking, definitely not championing the idea, a little surprised at the "money grab" critiques....yeah....i think everyone acknowledges that.....a money making business proposed an idea that might make more money for them

and a significant cash injection from WA.
Still think the Super Rugby method is the better way to trial this, keeps it more tribal but still allows to not miss out on this cash cow in Australia, proven via other codes
-
It's still easily the highest ranking rugby game in Australia and if you win a couple that will change very quickly. I don't think it needs Anzac day.
Super rugby does. The trans Ta$man aspect is easier to run, provides an opportunity for special jerseys etc. and can strengthen the competition that needs the most help.

An ANZAC Day with five games... two afternoon kickoffs in NZ/Fiji, a night game in NZ/Afternoon in Australia + Two night games in Aussie.
-
ironically might have been good for super round, host some brunches after dawn service...then play three back to back games NZ v Aussie/Drua
would need to actually commit though, treat it like a test, marching bands, fly byes, the teams all go to dawn service
-
I not all that chuffed with super round , but can understand that's maybe because I in NZ and they never going to have them here anyway.
Look any ANZAC tests would be in Aus, but not why I not comfortable with them. But honestly see why it stacks up well for RA, and not NZR anyway, so works for me just not having them at all.
I tell you what I would support maybe, a proper ANZAC game, where the game is actually played by ANZACS (the armed forces) -

i am that that thinks what NZR needs long term is a strong RA, so i hope they looked at more than just the math of this particular game and the bigger picture

Yep, I agree, I think it has to be balanced out with the fact that RA is not a NZR dependent. I agree we want them strong, but not just them.

Fuck Jeff Wilson has some shit takes.
I do like it that he at least puts forward his shit takes.
Full-on support for the test and happy to take ABs out of Super rugby for it.
Fuck me days man, do you not see the competition that needs the help?Funny how Wilson and Marshall talked about how great it would be to have the test at Christchurch's new stadium, and have missed that one of reason NZR were against it was that it would always be in Aus.
Not a lot of thinking for him and Marshall. -

Fuck me days man, do you not see the competition that needs the help?Yeah, it seems a crap proposition. Drop everything to play a one off test match in the middle of the SR season. Not sure why Tim Horan was so hostile to the NZR on their unwillingness to give it the green light.either, it just doesn't seem like a good idea.
I can't back it up with proof but I also think a one off test match in the middle of SR would not be good for the bodies of the players or their physical regimens since they will have to adjust to a different training environment and the different demands test match rugby places on them.
With one stupid option was to pause SR for a round to fit this test in .
Which is unrealistic extending SR another week or starting it a week early.
No time to fit that in. -
Why don’t we just line up Aus/NZ matches that week so we have four NZ teams playing four Aus teams? Why muck around with Super Rugby when we’ve just got to a point where the product is starting to become good again.

Good idea.
Should have been suggested earlier.
