@Canes4life Totally agree even if it’s there wider training group players at least someone even the injured players.

100%, the only organisation at that event that didn't have their shit together.

Damn don’t think Riley will be available for a few rounds yet. This was only posted four days ago:

We can't buy a trick this year, if only we could get our top team on the park.

Hopefully they give Cashmore the 10 jersey over Hohepa.

Harkin or Cashmore would be a immediate upgrade over Hohepa.

            Massive blow losing Godfrey.

They'll pick Hohepa because of experience. 🙄

Other option is to throw Love the 10 jersey.

@Canes4life Never rated Hohepa but I'll admit Laidlaw will most likely pick him despite his obvious weaknesses at Super Rugby level.

Great game by Kini Naholo tonight though, he is joining Japanese league one club Urayasu Drocks for 2025-2026 season.

Nice sauce. They have heaps of non-Japanese players so must be offloading some to snare him I imagine.

Good to know, however with the way Hohepa played last night it will be hard to drop him. Cashmore might have to bide his time for an opportunity with Love covering 10 from fullback.

Just to add some interesting details to this, I just asked one of my contacts about this and he said he had heard the same. The player they had signed was Connor Garden-Bachop(RIP) so they are now looking for someone else to fill that spot. Jonah Lowe was on the cards but they aren’t too keen after his recent knee injury and have moved on to Kini Naholo.

Naholo no chance for the All Blacks?

Seems to be in very good form at the moment so would be a strange choice to leave NZ at this stage.

How good is it to see Bailyn Sullivan and Peter Umaga Jensen playing so well! Both on fire both sides of the ball, It's a privilege for the Canes to have such impressive depth in the midfield. Will this great form from PUJ and Sullivan make it difficult for All Black Billy Proctor to return to the form he was in last year? Will Wellington Lions Player of the year 22 year old Riley Higgins be pushed out of the 23, I hope we don't end up losing one of those four quality players with Jordie Barrett returning to the side in 2026.

The online article is paywalled but here is the intro:

The financial challenges facing the Hurricanes have been laid bare by a $700,000 loss in 2024 and a forecast of a further deficit this year. The losses follow a $1.4 million deficit in 2023 and the Super Rugby club has turned to existing shareholders for an additional $1M in capital as it works through a plan to return to positive financial territory in the 2026 year and beyond.

                                        • Depressed crowd numbers and increased costs stress bottom line.
                                        • The Hurricanes also lost $1.4M in 2023.
                                        • Existing shareholders have until Friday to take up new share offer.

In the full article Cully also talks about the cost of the tenancy at NZCIS and accommodating a large squad including WTG and academy players.

Surely it is time for the most fiscally responsible union in the country, Hawkes Bay, to take over the Canes. Wellington (provincial and franchise) has shown they're not up to running teams from a financial standpoint. 🎣
