Our 5th Wisden Trophy Winner 🙂 NZ has produced 3 winners in the last eight years.

Who are the 5? and for what performance?
NB there have only been actual winners since 2022. Prior to that they are notional

Have to assume Kane and maybe BMac from the last 8 years?

    Previous winner Paddles for 1985?

      My guesses

      • Hadlee 1985 15 wickets
      • Ajaz and his 10 for
      • Bmac 300
      • Can't think of another

I read that article, and couldn't tell what the trophy was actually for?

So it is 'performance' of the year? Not player of the year?

That would make way more sense than what I thought I was reading about.

Maybe Baz also won it for his fastest test century? That might squeeze into the last 8 years. But his 300 was 11 years ago.

Was thinking the same, is it part of Wisdens 5 Cricketers of the year?

              They are all English.

Read this article. Wisden isn't holding back, not that it will make any difference.

Baz didn't win it. Mitch Johnson did for 7-68 and 5-59 v South Africa at Centurion.

                Hadlee, Ajaz, Satnav

Other winners were in 2018 and 1949 That should make it easy

MP Donnelly in 1949? Can remember that but not 2018!

I guess the hint is in SatNav does us proud (again) for outstanding individual test performance

So Satner in 2018, even I know he took a dozen (more?) wickets

Rookie Black Caps Rhys Mariu, Mitch Hay get chance to push for test debut in NZ A squad

Next crop of young ones with a mix of Black Caps experience for the NZ A side.
Surely Rhys Mariu is in with a decent shot of being selected for the test side for the Zimbabwe tour going by the numbers he racked up in the Plunket Shield this season.

Incumbents probably want to pad their averages so if he's lucky he mighy get some batting practise in the nets.

I didn't know where to put this, but this is absolutely outrageous. At just 14 years old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has scored the fastest IPL hundred off 35 balls.

And it's not like he was facing a terrible bowling lineup, they had Siraj, Sharma and Washington with plenty of international experience. Yes T20s in India favour the batsmen heavily but that is an absolutely outrageous innings at that age. He also hit his first ever ball in T20 for 6 a few weeks back as well. Crazy talent, going to be interesting to see how he develops - e.g. will he just be a T20 specialist or does he have a game that can translate to tests.

Bit of a sorry looking scorecard for the NZ A side in their One Day Match currently in progress against Bangladesh A. 4 of the top 5 got ducks. NZ A dismissed for 147 off 34 overs. Only bright spots were Rhys Mariu with 42 and Dean Foxcroft with 72. Bangladesh currently 123/3 from 23 overs
