Towards the end of his life I visited him and he said it was better to have Parkinsons than Alzheimers as it's better to spill half your beer than forget where you put it.
My Dad died of Parkinson's almost ten years to the day you posted your anecdote. Terrible disease. Until he got really bad I had no idea just now nasty it is.
I told him the same beer comparison which he enjoyed, right up until Parkinson's robbed him of his ability to taste and he stopped drinking, having been a heavy drinker for nearly 70 years. I knew then he wouldn't last much longer

Without dragging this thread too much off topic it's heart breaking seeing your folks in decline......
But then I've got two good mates who lost their Dads suddenly and kind of unexpectedly before they ( the Dads ) turned 60. Which way is better ?
