Jim in a team thats struggled in the first half has been outstanding

He'd have to be in the conversation wouldn't he?

He wins the turnover to get us to that end of the field and he finishes it off by scoring. Shit Jim goes good

God it would be good if Finau hit someone other than 10’s

It's a good start though. How many other loose forwards are making 10s terrified of receiving a pass?

He’s been the same for 3 years. Does that mean it started 3 years ago? He’s got big hit potential, just wish it were on other forwards or midfielders as well

Sure, but it's easier on obvious plays where you can get that momentum. And yet none of our other players are doing it.

            Not pointlessly anyway.

            What makes it pointless?

Hitting a ten that easily gets the ball away while taking yourself out of the defence and 20 metres behind the play isn't the greatest win. Probably not a big deal when it's just a training run anyway, but doesn't add much.

Au contraire - it makes them stand deeper, giving your defence more time. It can also make them nervous to so sneak a quick look and knock on.

Only if it's a proper rib tickler, miller got straight up and I doubt many worry about it after that.

A lot of people get up after getting smashed and are still affected.

I just think if you're a ten, you're not that worried about a guy that can't even smack another forward. In fact you're probably happy to draw him out - you're doing your job. If he can actually replicate on at least a loosie, different story.

I'd like some evidence for the inherent premise Finau doesn't tackle as well/ hard as all the other loose forwards. Because if he does, and also does the odd hit on 10s, what's the problem?

@Bones He's a decent player, but I've not really noticed him consistently slowing down opposition ball with strong tackling. Compare to Akira Ioane at Super Rugby level.

Yep, evidence of him smacking other loosies is exactly what we're asking for!

I'll file that with the posts asking for that of other loose forwards.

I've argued from your angle before this season, was just hoping to see.... well more strings to his bow this season. He's been underwhelming for mine.

He plays like a shorter 2023-24 version of Mark Tele'a. Strong in the contact area and difficult to put to ground.

Wow ,Just when you thought the Chiefs looked like they might wrack up a big score it all changes
I do wonder if the injury to Quinn Tupaea had mentally thrown them

Rewound to the Quinn injury. De Groot cleaned him so potentially copped a stray finger or something along those lines?

I think he got into a reasonable position but Withy got lower and may have headbutted him in the process. Nothing deliberate - just an accident.

@Bones He's a decent player, but I've not really noticed him consistently slowing down opposition ball with strong tackling. Compare to Akira Ioane at Super Rugby level.

Strongly agree, which makes Razor's shunning of him all the more difficult to comprehend.

By geez the steam gone from Chiefs when Tupaea got injured. I would of thought rona to 12, and Jacomb at 15 would of been better option? Move one of wings to 13?

Who knows these days. I don't want the game to be penalising people who get into a good position to make a tackle get carded as a direct result of the attacker dipping. It's nice to see some common sense applied.

@antipodean just carding people for "shoulders to the head" instead
