NRL 2025

Probably the most consistent last tackle kicking performance from our halves this season. Nice to see some contestable kicks deep in attack.
-
the stale 2025 State of Origin is rolling in to game 2 with absolutely no hype behind it. The most boring series i can remember, caused by the fact that Qld are shit, the coaches having no personality, and the players being mostly nice guy, aw shucks polynesians with the exception of Leniu, who is a bench player anyway.
It turns out Billy isn't a genius, he's just another dim bloke from Innisfail. His team got fucking rolled through the middle, and one of his wingers who is a centre dropped nearly everything that came his way and was lost on defense. So in order to rectify that he dropped the halfback. FMD.
Wait, he also dropped a form edge backrower after giving him the last 15 mons of game 1, and brought in old man Capewell who was shown to be too slow for this level 12 fucking months ago (yes his club form is better but it's not like he's got quicker!).
He also brought Mam in to camp which is a massive failure to read the room.NSW lost our boy Barney and just got to roll in a form Storm front rower. Every one else remains the same. Considering their attack didn't click in game 1, and they still never looked like losing, if they get that right it will get very ugly in Perth.

Was anyone labouring under that misapprehension? Extremely talented footballers don't tend to make great coaches and nothing in his history would've suggested otherwise.
-
well, he did win his first two series as coach, the first was a shock, the 2nd they went to NSW and thumped them.
But the wheels fell off last year when he lost the media battle, and his team got pulled apart.
-
-
oooof, if the Courier Mail leak i just read is accurate then this might be the worst Origin team of all time.
Word is Billy is dropping Carrigan to the bench to start a backrow of Capewell, Loiero adn Cotter!!! Carrigan and Nanai were literally our best forwards in G1 and they will both come off the pine.
Get entirely fucked Billy you're cooked.

Sure, but Craig Bellamy lost series and we all know who we think is the better coach. I think SoO flatters ex-players masquerading.
-
i think Origin coaching is pretty far removed from club coaching. Pick the right players and get out of the way. The best Freddie Fittler team was that, he picked every attacking player at his disposal and got out of the way, they romped home. When he tried to coach they sucked.
Get the team together, get them on the same page, get out of the way. It's won and lost at the selection table.
It's why Meninga and Walters looked like decent coaches, they had the easiest job in history.
-
Yeah half of origin coaching is motivational stuff - fighting for your state, fighting for your mate, the guys that came before you, fighting for every last play blah blah blah with a bit of coaching involved, which is why you see ex players get the gigs nearly all of the time, where as club land is where you need to know your stuff tactically, who fits your roster, salary cap squeezes etc.
Look at two of the great coaches Jack Gibson and Craig Bellamy. Awful at the origin arena.
-
it's even worse than i thought, with the above confirmed, and Hammer moving to the wing to get Val in the centres.
I love Hammer, he's a jet with soft hands and unreal feet. But a modern rugby league winger he absolutely is not. Carrying out of the back field is not his go.
We're fucked unless the Qld spirit is not only real, but applicable in a modern fully professional game.
-
Mitch Moses out!
-
The Dolphins starting to show how good they can be on attack. Nikorima is a decent player when he's not the dominant half, Katoa continues to grow as a player, and Jack Bostock is a seriously underrated player. Dare I say if he was at a Sydney club, his name would be mentioned more in conversation for rep honours.
Good to see Kristian Woolf proving that he is more than a good enough NRL coach too. He's done the hard yards to get there, and could go on to do some great things with this outfit.
-
Does the 50 point rule count to state of origin impacted games? I don’t know but the Cows were also well below par. That Dolphins backline is full of quality attacking players. I tend to agree about Bostock playing elsewhere might get recognised more. Don’t see him ahead of Lomax and Kiraz though.
-
Lomax no, but I reckon if you swapped teams with Bostock and Kiraz, then Bostock would get recognized more. Maybe that's due to me also not being a fan of Kiraz too.
-
there are some absolute spud coaches in the NRL who just keep getting jobs.
Seibold has a full strength Manly side losing to the Knights and the Titans in back to back weeks. There is absolutely no heart in the Sea Eagles at all.
Shane Flanagan is doing nothing with the Dragons at all. They are just a nothing side going nowhere.
AOB has the Knights firmly in spoon contention with one of the worst attacks you will ever be unfortunate to see.
Todd Payton is taking the Cowboys backwards, with terrible selecting, awful retention, and obviously bad motivation as they just do not look like they want to play for him.
Des got a win, somehow, with an under-manned Titans but they remain rooted to the bottom of the ladder.
-
And it looks like the first one to go, surely for the last time (though Trent Barrett keeps getting jobs i guess) will be at Manly.
Seibold got something very close worded to the "full support of the Board" which means the end is nigh. Apparently a crisis meeting was held yesterday where the coach told all the players the many different ways they are shit. Turbo is getting shifted to the centres, and a couple of guys will be playing NSW-Cup this week.
It's coming.
-
Plenty more coaches should be looking over their shoulders too but aren't.....
Manly's in a bad spot. Tommy Turbo has lost his speed and can barely run compared to what he used to, DCE is done and at this rate, will struggle to find another gig, Jake is slowing down at an alarming rate, Olo'kolatu has had a bad year so yeah, things are looking rather bleak.
-
Disagree on Olakau'atu i think he's been their best player.
But the other 3? Yes. And between them that's a looooot of cap space. Tommy T is done, he just cannot sustain a gallop. Jurbo was never quick and has got markedly slower. DCE is just not playing well, doesn't appear to be competing as hard, and is marked hard for it after his whole contract situation (if the Roosters dump a good young half for this bloke they have rocks in their heads).
They lost their best middle for the year as well.
Of all the job openings that should come up, this is probably the best one.
