Add me to the list of Dept Q fans.
Finished this last night and despite the dark content, was an enjoyable series
I think it was good how the last ep, particularly the last 10 or so was more on the afterglow of the success rather than they catch the bad guy, save the victim cut to credits. -
Smoke
Watched two back to back on Apple last night
Excellent

The only thing I hated about the last Ep was how they fucken touched everything at the crime scene! This despite them telling the dumb cop off in E1 for the very same thing

Far North
Locals Tem Morrison and Robyn Malcolm mess up a $500M drug smuggling operation. On Stan.
Enjoyed.
Series captured Kaitaia and Ahipara in winter brilliantly, e.g., little things like bright orange citrus fruit in soaking wet gardens, everything damp, the ramshackle clutter of the houses in Ahipara with the stashed cray pots. Got the nostalgic juices flowing. Even the scene in the golf course.
Did think the weather they portrayed was insanely good and settled for a ridiculously extended period, especially in the middle of winter.
And Tem gave good Northland dude vibes, laconic with the appropriate wardrobe, the vest, shorts and beanie.
I do have an issue that all movies with a bunch of Polynesian character plays them like extras from Sione's Wedding. I have no doubt the actual protagonists would have been nasty arrogant pricks (who had no idea about boats) rather than bumbling loveable twits.
Not a fan of the portrayal of the cops, although it's entirely possible they would have been slow on the uptake.
The Toia story line was a redundant red herring.
Also, what the fuck was Louie doing driving into a no exit road to Totara North?
Got pissed off with the subtitles. Every time the Chinese characters started speaking the subtitles came up with "speaks foreign language" slap bang across the actual subtitles so you could not read what they were saying. GOM.
Worth a watch.
Am off to google the actual story.

@booboo I don't recall the Chinese subtitle issue...I know some programs they leave you not knowing what is said as the main people won't understand either, but the version I watched had the English subtitles I think
Just a GOM thing. The film-makers had provided subtitles for when the Chinese were speaking (you needed to know what they were saying), but the automatically generated ones blanked them out.
Meant I was turning them on and off the whole time.
Probably needed someone from NZ to run their eyes over what spewed out anyway as some of the words were obviously wrong.

Finished Mobland last night, great overall. Little annoyed about the Conrad and Maeve likely to be out of prison so soon, that could have given Kevin and Seraphina more of a run. Hardy was great in this series and it may have not been as effective without him. Still a good watch with a few good songs throughout including the catchy theme song.

I hate this, so many shows have this issue, I'm slightly deaf (have a hearing aid) so use captions on almost everything and when they speak a foreign language which has show placed subtitles, yet the TV/AI over right them with "Speaking a foreign language" bloody annoying.
The other thing is when the subtitles are so far behind what's being said. grrrrrr -
@Mainlander I use the subtitles more often than not because so often the sound effects are much louder than the conversations.

So do Mrs M and me. My hearings pretty good and find the sound balance bloody awful on a lot of stuff. Interestingly, on well-written stuff like Slow Horses, I don't seem to need them.

Scrublands.
Pretty good series. Similar to Black Snow but not a rip-off

They should do a team up show where Ragnar and the guy from that pirate show team up to solve a mystery.

Have rediscovered The Expanse in recent weeks, am watching S5. Can’t remember all the historical plots, but still enjoying it as it’s focussed heavily on Amos which is always fun - and the visuals are just impeccable as always.
The books are bloody good as well and go beyond were the show ends. well at least has ended so for... 30 year gap .... hard to age the actors I guess, Also with Alex gone from the show but not the books.
Read how Amos did and did not get killed.... -
Really like Megan Stalter in Hacks
Started watching her latest comedy on Netflix last night
20 mins was too much
Far too little comedy
Avoid like the plague

Continuing my Apple TV+ show watch, the latest series were Silo and Masters of the Air. Both were really enjoyable. I might go back to Ted Lasso for a change of pace until a few more episodes of Foundation drop.
I see what you did there.

Untamed
Starring Sam Neil, Eric Bana, with the latter as the cliched moody cop with the tortured past.
Not a must watch, but a decent enough watch with a couple of little twists.
Tires
Finished both seasons, pretty good with some funny, silly stuff.

Just started this as well.
That opening scene was pretty horrific for someone like me who hates heights.
Some pretty stunning scenery too, not sure if they’re overdoing shots of it to make up for a cliched story we’ve seen so many time before. Will keep watching and decide !
