i think they are the only contending team that could do with him (as good as Tracey has been), every other team are happy at fullback. He's not going to push out Papi, Weekes, Walsh, Edwards or Tedesco. We could fit him, but would we push out either of our FBs for him?

So his main settling points outside the Dogs are those middle of the road teams like Manly, maybe the sharks?

I don't think he plays NZ rugby, does he consider taking a European rugby club option, maybe. This could be a one year option to end up in Perth. Sharks, even back to the Cowboys (at 6) isnt a bad option, but dont know how likely any of them are.

I’d hate for us to get overexcited about his potential availability and shaft one of our current fullback options. Ponga is quality and there are few better from the back or as a secondary playmaker with quick ball. Knights attack is all over the show right now so no surprise he hasn’t been great.

On the rugby move, “hey whanau I’m taking a 700-800K pay cut to pursue a dream that is not guaranteed and has more politics than Origin”. Yeah nah.

Yeah Tracey is a solid bet, but he's not elite. Very busy, but he's not an elite ball player out the back like Ponga, nor does he have the kicking game that Ponga has.

You're right, and I always hoped before the Dogs got good that he would end up at Cronulla and they sent Will Kennedy the other way in some sort of swap deal thing, but if he were to leave Newcastle, those 2 clubs would be the best bet for him. Manly are in a bit of a tight spot right now and I don't see them being a premiership force for a while. They need a rebuild.

As for Ponga coming to NZ rugby? Nah. Maybe Aussie rugby if he wants to switch codes?

You would hope a Kiwi rugby agent had links with NZ rugby. 😃

I read somewhere that his NZ based rugby agent is shopping him around overseas ie not in NZ. Not sure what that would mean for any AB aspirations.

He's trying to make his client as much money as possible, and clearly Ponga is cool with that

He appears to be an agent with one tactic: "hey, how about I seed a story with a journo that you are keen on playing for the All Blacks?"

KP: "Didn't you do that two years ago?"

Agent: "Yeah... and your point is?"
