I have no skin in the club game here in Wellington but I wandered along to Hutt Rec on Saturday to watch Hutt Old Boys Marist and Paremata-Plimmerton do battle in the Jubilee Cup semi-final. Not warm, but an OK day weatherwise with a swirly breeze of sorts.
High scoring affair with both sides guilty of resting on their laurels immediately after scoring. HBOM continued to be quite loose into the second half, and were down 19-37 before making a remarkable comeback to win 45-42 with the last play of the game. They were down to 14 for the last 10 too. Importantly, with 20 to go, they distinctly changed tactics and wore down Pare-Plim by building up the phases with their ball runners close to the ruck.
By all accounts, some of the HBOM committee/top brass had already been looking ahead to the final when having beers at the pub earlier that week, so some red faces were saved with that injury time five-pointer.
Will probably go and watch more club footy next year. It's quite fun to watch when you have no allegiances.

@Smudge warm welcome to the eagles nest fella. The old guy roaming the sidelines with the camera is WB, wander over and tell him Bones sent you next time, I'm sure you'll get a bev out of it.
I shall be remaining relatively neutral, much like my chum who goes and watches a few clubs in the area (Petone, HBOM, Wainuiomata and even occasionally Eastbourne in whatever grade they play in nowadays).
That old fella WB was very active on Saturday, hunting for the best spot behind the line. I respected his hustle.

At 40 years old Joe Royal is going for his 8th Gallaher Shield championship win with the mighty Ponsonby in the final this Saturday. It will also be his 150th game for Ponies. Club Legend.

@JK First time ever that Shore have won a 3-peat, and they're now just the second club to win more than 2 in a row - Takapuna did that in 1994-2000 and 2006-2009. The beginning of a new dynasty perhaps?

North Harbour Premier 1 WikipediaI think so.
My kids play for Shore, but I’m still 100% a northcote supporter. At least they aren’t playing for Taka!!

40 year old Joe Royal captained Ponsonby to our 49th Auckland championship and his own 8th. A great achievement today with only 8 returning players that played in last seasons final winning side.
Ponies scored twice in the first 7 minutes but a tough Marist side hung in there and scored with 90 seconds remaining to have a chance of snatching it.
Final score 27-21.
