It really is a shame they didn't use this as an apportunity to give an up and coming player a chance instead of Nicholls.

67/4 at lunch. Feel like we're a batter short with Blundell coming in an 6. Probably won't matter.

Henry with 3 of the wickets. Doesn't have a 10fer in his career yet - they're pretty rare for NZ bowlers not called RJ Hadlee. Maybe this test?

I hope Patel gets a run in the second test - he's close to 100 test wickets, none of which have come at home yet.

Henry outright 10th now. A bit sad that Chats is now out of the top 10.

    @Cyclops

Possibly a batter short but Blundell has batted six for awhile now ( with poor form of late overall ) and Bracewell, Santner, Smith and Henry are a very strong 7-10 line up. Won’t matter against Zimbabwe like you say.

Chatfield might be out of the top ten but it was always going to happen with other good bowlers coming in.

    Magnificent from Henry again.

Pretty predictable scoreline to wake up to, would be nice to see one or both of these guys get a big one.

he's been second to Bumrah in the last WTC cycle. Averaging 18.

his last 2 years have been really impressive, and across all formats
Since July '23 hes done the following

    Tests - 10 matches - 54 wickets @ 17.24
    T20I - 47 matches - 65 wickets @ 17.98
    ODI's - 19 matches - 38 wickets @ 22.18

Good chance he might over take Cairns Snr by the end of this match too.

Yeah would love him to get a 10fer. Absolutely deserved.

For me he’s second name down on the team sheet after KW now. Just an amazing improvement from the pieman he used to be.

Just on Henry and his chances of 10 for the match……

It’s a staggering stat that just THREE Black Cap bowlers have ever taken more than one 10 fer in their careers.

Hadlee stands out like dogs balls by achieving this NINE times, Vettori three and Patel twice.

Southee, Boult, Martin, Cairns jr and sr, Chatfield, Bracewell, Nash, Bond, Jamieson, Santner, Craig, Cowie, Troup and Pringle make up the rest having done this once each. Some very good bowlers here mixed in with a few one off freak performances.

Notable to me that Wagner who would be in the discussion for an all time NZ XI never managed it once.

Young and Conway to declare at 600 without loss?

    Yeah go on then.

Young is too good a player to not have scored a ton and Conway is…..well, I thought he was cooked but here’s hoping he contributes too.

Waste of a spot playing Nichols, didn’t even know he was in the squad. Surely giving one of the young fullas a game would be more worth while?

Looking forward to a scratchy 30 from Nicholls

Disappointing Duffy isn't getting a run.

    You called it.

Such a nothing score in cricket, neither here nor there.

Should end up with a comfortable lead by the end of the days play today though

Very disappointing day so far. From 92-0 to this is quite shit.

Here’s hoping Mitch jr can salvage something and get a handy first innings lead

This reminds me of the old days of the Black Caps. Top order is crap, but the tail gets us up to something respectable.

Surely our aim vs Zimbabwe is to only bat once. Certainly possible still, but we were 92 without, thus, it's a fairly ordinary day so far.

What happened to Smith ? Is he able to bowl ?

Still very much in the box seat but not as much as they should be

Another three or so wickets for Henry would be nice. Might need Mitch and Ravindra to roll the arms over to ease the burden too

Zimbabwe 110/6 still trailing by 48.

Henry 2/44, hopefully he can clean up the tail.

We either won’t bat again or we’ll chase fuck all so providing the weather holds this should be all over rover pretty soon
