    @sparky yep they were talking about that on the podcast I was watching earlier. Seems the Red Bull thing is just a rumour (and a hopeful one), been no confirmation. Though they confident about Christie.

    @Dan54 The Times story (behind a paywall) is quite detailed. No announcement yet but the deal is at an advantaged stage and set for RFU board approval.

    Red Bull had been linked to a team in R360, but were persuaded by Premiership Rugby to invest in an English club and chose Newcastle.

    "It has transformed Newcastle overnight from the league's biggest headache club into its most exciting project."

    I severely doubt Finley Christie will be their last high profile signing.

    @WoodysRFC The big problem Super Rugby has is that European interest in the competition since the South Africans left is more or less zero.

    Europe is where a lot of the big money in Rugby and Rugby sponsorship is.

    It is nearly impossible to get European sports fans interested in a competition played in front of empty stands. The crowd is as important in European sport as what happens on the pitch.

    If Super Rugby wants European sponsorship it needs to give away tickets or play in smaller stadiums where the crowd is close to the action and noisy.

    @sparky

    an even bigger problem is that SR will be cast in the very low rating early morning euro time (the main reason it was good having SA in the comp - SA games being in a perfect time slot for west euro)
    no euro caster is ever guna pay much for that

    note that recently Optus in Aus actually paid Stan to take the EPL soccer rights off them, live EPL is in a piss poor time slot in this part of the world (not to bad in West Aus tho)
    if that's what is happening to EPL rights here, SR has little chance of ever getting much euro revenue

    I'm sure RB are heavily connected to big players like Netflix, primetime means nothing with streaming services, much like F1, the money will be in the storylines which develop alongside the product.

    Massive credit to him for giving his dream a go. Shame it didn't work out but your always going to be up against it when trying to enter a mammoth talent pool at the mid career point.

    Added bonus for new Welsh coach Steve Tandy having LRZ available again.
    Nice to see him back in Rugby.

    I think it great news, and credit tp LRZ gave it a try, and perhaps didn't work as he hoped.
    Always have a crack at your dreams I reckon!
