The bond villain designed the weapon system (which is based on an upsized lightsaber apparantly).
Looks good so far, not getting a huge marketing push though which is interesting.
Bro. Its Star Wars
Trailer looks good. Some of the landscape work is fantastic. And pretty much anything involving Mads Mikkelsen is going to rock.

Yep. Landscape looks as good as anything we've ever seen in Star Wars to be honest. I'm assuming that imperial dude dies ( along with virtually Every one else unless they're essentially soldiers for hire who fuck off to another galaxy far, far away once their job is done )
In terms of the stormtroopers lots of them should still be Jango clones and as such be pretty effective.

I thought that by then the clone troopers had pretty much gone. Most were Empire forced drafts by the time this is set.
Anyway, this looks really promising. Nice to have a new story arc that hasn't been picked over. I also wonder how this can end up and tie in with canon without them all dying or retired to the outer rim as New Hope starts straight after and these guys are nowhere to be seen.

Apparently the troops that stormed the Tantive IV ( start of a New hope ) were the last of the clones, "Vaders fist" but they never got Tem back to do the voiceovers so not sure how "Canon" that is.

Because I'm not up on the Canon, just how many death stars were there?

2 I believe. Some Nerds are whinging that it wasn't realistic that the first one had a flaw and could be destroyed but history is littered with all sorts of prototypes that crapped out for one reason or another. Titanic being an obvious one.

Here is a different trailer with some behind the scenes footage.

Also took the son of the chosen one getting help from a space ghost to make the shot. Everyone else got killed.

I think the plot in this is that Jyn's dad is the Death Star architect. He is coerced into the job and realises what its purpose is too late. Maybe he put the flaw there on purpose.

The Red leader just about did it tough, the equivalent of a drop goal bouncing off a post I guess. Also when Han comes out of nowhere to save the day the Millienium Falcon appeared to have front guns that weren't there previously.
Definitely a possibility, after all some nerds put this bloke forward as a possible Rebel sympathizer too. I reckon this is 100% true.

I will of course see this film with my kids as soon as it comes out. However, I am highly sceptical. The extra scenes for the Samurai dude make it even more likely that he's a pisstake (force sensitive samurai ffs) and I'm not looking forward to seeing Forrest "earnest shocked look" Whittaker.
I guess the bigger problem is that we'll see a host of characters who apparently played major roles in the rebellion but aren't even mentioned in the original series and (Samurai aside) are probably 100 times cooler.
Another important thing is that this is presumably taking place shortly before the events of ANH which would make Leia a pretty vital player. Is she even in this film?

Who knows? She might be in the end when they pass on the plans (I'm hoping for a young Tony Stark style CGI for that). Much more likely we'll see C3PO and R2D2, so they can keep up the record of being the only characters in all the Star Wars films.
The way the movie is being shown as a war movie genre, I'm half expecting most of the characters to end up dead. Also, the Rebellion was quite large, and we only followed a small part of it.
If they didn't cross paths with the main characters in the first three films, why should we seem them again?

You can be a major player and not be in the movies, after all the Emperor isn't in a New Hope at all and only in Empire Strikes back for a few minutes and that was only as a hologram. Excited that James Earl Jones is listed in the credits, also note that Leias adopted dad Bail Organa is there too. Alderaan looked like a lovely planet, shame they blew it up.
-
I thought the plans got to Leia via Jimmy Smits. She was then trying to deliver them to Mon Mothma when intercepted by Vader.
The bit that has yet to be covered off is how Leia knows about Obi Wan. Did Organa tell her to go and get his help? Was she going to Alderaan or just passing by? Maybe diverting there when she realised they weren't going to make it to base without Vader catching them?
Vader really is a dumbfuck though unless he has had as many memory wipes as 3PO. Here they are above his home planet, where his mother is buried and he doesn't bother leading the chase after the plans himself.....
-
@Crucial She knew of Obi Wan because he fought in the clone wars with her "father" Bail Organa didn't she? True about Vader, it's as if at time of writing the script Lucas had not decided the plot lines of SW1-3. Probable considering he may not have even expected the massive success of SW4 that launched an entire franchise

Yes, poorly written on my part. I meant how did she know how to find him? He was in hiding.
Presumably Vader knew he was in hiding as there is no surprise when they see each other again, yet somehow we are meant to believe that the angry little shit Anakin wasn't looking for the guy that turned him into a machine.
(This is all asked with no knowledge of the Clone Wars series which, I believe sets a fair bit of canon now)
