Certainly one of the best ever played. England just couldn't get across the line today, losing the 4 wickets for 25 odd runs with the ball moving like crazy. Awesome to get the Oval packed too for the match (although with predominantly Indian fans!).
Great watching, guess I'm going to have to do some work now ...

Jeez that was a fun watch.
Didn't India injury replace their wicket keeper earlier in the series?
Thought you could replace like for like.
One crap batter, with another crap batter.A replacement fielder was allowed to keep wicket (that rule changed a few years ago), but they weren't allowed to bot (or bowl, but obviously not relevant for a keeper). Like-for-like subs (ie allowed to bot/bowl) are permitted for concussion and COVID.
There are also different rules for 'external' and 'intenal' injuries. (Basically, if the injury is 'intertal' you can't bat/bowl until you've been back in the game as long as you were out. So if you miss 30 overs getting treatment, you have to be on the field for 30 overs before you can bowl again. If the innings has ended and your side is now batting, then your team has to have batted for 30 overs, or lost a certain number of wickets, but I can't remember what the wickets formula is)
Way back in 2005 I remember Ponting complaining about the English taking too many comfort breaks, saying that players should only be permitted to leave the field for injury.

2-2 was a fair reflection of a 5-Test, 24-day epic series. Congratulations to England and India on quite wonderful entertainment and for competing hard in every session.
Test cricket must never die!
It’s no Zimbabwe/New Zealand but I guess it was an ok series

Still carries an ouch, even 6 years on.
Yeah puts Ben Stokes recent carry on in perspective….

lol never. Never ever - there are Kiwi kids who don't even understand what it is about who feel it at a genetic level.
It’s every kiwis duty to ensure the hatred flows through each subsequent generation

Ben Stokes is such a flog. I hate his stupid ginger haircut and his stupid ginger beard and his stupid self appointed ginger moral arbiter of the spirit of cricket. Get fucked i hope you lose the Ashes 5-0

was a good series of cricket but by fuck didn't both sides go out of their way to prove how genuinely unlikable they are?
The worst thing Australian cricket ever did was show the world that to be really successful you have to act like a complete fluffybunny. -

Probably because India crushed that stat across the series.

I don't get the Stokes hate. Him and McCullum (both kiwis ...) have inspired this team to greater heights than the sum of their parts probably deserve. He gives 100% in every single game, which does get him lauded somewhat perhaps more than he deserves, but isn't that what every single sports team wants in their Captain?
He's my son's hero, and honestly, I can't see a lot what wrong with that.
