I think this would have been a perfect opportunity to have Leroy Carter off the bench covering wing and halfback, then we would could of had an extra loosie in Lakai.

It would probably be unheard of to have a rookie covering such a crucial position in test rugby when he's not even known for it at any level, let alone being known for any other position.

    But yeah, hurricanes!

    Hurricanes.

    Hurricanes.

I think your point would be valid if the guy coming off the bench actually offered something.

    Iose must be injured.

What does Iose have to do with Christie?

My suggestion was to have a bench of Taukei’aho, Williams, Tosi, Lord, Sititi, Lakai, Carter and McKenzie, forming our own bomb squad. Perfect test to try it.

You’re too conservative in your old age.

@Canes4life The idea is good but given Carter doesn't perform that role at super level it is a massive risk to try it in test rugby though

Glad the sauce came through with the goods. Was a bit worried about posting this one and risking the credibility.

Excited to see what Parker can do. Like this loose trio balance a lot more than last weekends.

Tuipulotu is a big miss when you see Lord there, otherwise the bench looks alright.

Carter has a diverse skillset largely due to his sevens background so I think he could do the business. I’ve seen him play pre season Super Rugby at 9 and he didn’t look out of place in that position.

Yes it’s a risk but it could come with huge reward if it pays off. I was literally just throwing it out there as a suggestion. What’s the point in having all these young backs in the squad if you aren’t going to try things. Plus, what does Christie offer that Carter couldn’t replicate? Christie never does anything.

Lord has previous test match experience in Argentina and played well so hoping to see a good shift from him on the bench.

Pleased to see Vaai kept at 6.

Parker and Sititi will be fascinating - especially with the Eden Park Boks test around the corner.

You have to wonder if everyone is fit, does Kirifi even get any more minutes for the remainder of the year?

I don't think so. He will play again, but if it was his last test, then he wouldn't be missed.

Yeah it not only sucks when a player who is in really good form gets injured, but that their role in the team is well defined and they are playing to it.

Patty and Lord are chalk and cheese in terms of the type of player they are.

Surely NZ has a better fourth choice halfback option than Christie? What about Fakatava? And why the lack of imagination or willingness to at least roll the dice a little with the backs overall? Something badly wrong with the coaching set up

Wonder if Scott Hansen is the Christie selector, as I remember Razor saying each coach selects their coaching area

Everyone has been asking for a bigger loose forward trio, there you have it. Who covers 7?

The coaches have their biggest stretches of tests coming up with Boks and Wallabies at Eden Park in the same month

We've finally turned the corner and are selecting big bodies . There's only room for one midget in the forwards at a time.

We are going from one extreme (small loosies) to the other (big loosies and as many locks you can fit into the 23). Obviously, this looks like a dummy run for how to tackle SA. The reserves could be better.

Surely NZ has a better fourth choice halfback option than Christie? What about Fakatava? And why the lack of imagination or willingness to at least roll the dice a little with the backs overall? Something badly wrong with the coaching set up

Not sure he would be any better than Christie.

I doubt he could be worse. He seems to have turned the corner on the dumbest shit of his play and the upsides remain.

If you structure your game around quick rucks to get behind a defence and keep them retiring until you can exploit it, Christie's play is anathematic to that.

Experienced or not, I can't think of a selection that is more geared towards self sabotage.

My suggestion was to have a bench of Taukei’aho, Williams, Tosi, Lord, Sititi, Lakai,

                                        Pick one.

We've finally turned the corner and are selecting big bodies . There's only room for one midget in the forwards at a time.

I’m picking both. Big loosies to start the match, mobile loosies to finish when the game opens up.

I suspect that thinking is how we were uncharacteristically losing the second half of games.
