Charlie Lawrence from Hamilton BHS in Japan squad. No sign of Kaivelata yet, but they are clearing out their props, so I expect he will get picked once eligible.

That's not a name that I remember. I see he is a midfielder.

Willis Halahalo has been called up to the Tonga squad, making a switch from Wales.

Maliu Niuafe is also part of the USA squad along with Shilo Klein and Ezekiel Lindenmuth. Another prop that Auckland could do with now.

    Two big upsets...

Potentially big ramifications for RWC qualification too.

That Tonga team steamrolled Samoa too, completely outmuscled and outplayed.

Samoa defence wasn’t too bad but their attack really struggled to string anything together.

Tonga didn’t have to do too much and just kept things tight.

Watched that UsA v Canada match and Canada were pretty impressive. Their 9/10 combo moved the ball swiftly and they had some big bodies getting past the gain line with relative ease.

They did. Samoa were dominated in contact, at breakdown and at set piece.

Am at the USA - Japan match, 28-14 - halftime.

Kiwi 2nd row Warner deans scored a try for Japan - apparently joining the hurricanes next season. Nice try two or three defenders couldn't contain him and he extended his long arms.

Better effort from Samoa yesterday, but we're undone by poor throwing and decision making. The scoreline doesn't show how close the game really was.

Deans had a good game, scored a second try and had some nice moments - got given a borderline hospital pass and neatly sidestepped the would be tackler like he was an outside back. He's agile with good hands and a nice burst of pace.

Hope he gets good mins for the canes because he was a fun player to watch tbh.

Apparently he is gonna be on a one year sabbatical from his Japanese club soni don't think it's gonna be permanent.

Btw, look at the try he scored this weekend.... about 35 seconds in...... He gets the ball in the Tonga 22 and then produces the footwork of a winger. I can't wait to see him play for the Canes, he is going to be so fun to watch.
