Fast blokes on the wings sounds elementary to me.
Sivivatu got 46 caps.
Rico Gear got 20.
Hosea Gear got 15.
Milner Skudder got 13.No
I composed that post poorly. I wasnt implying NMS was fast, just that wingers were quite disposable historically.
Once the pixie dust is used up, get them gone.
Like Kurt Cobain, it's all over at 27
We have turned into the civil service.
We owe Beaudy, ALB, Rieko, Reece et al nothing. They didnt win a Lions tour or a World Cup for us.
They have had a good innings.....ages ago.
Same with Scooter.....another loss or 2 and he should be stripped. Heck id strip him now.
THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE ALL BLACKS.
Razor and Scooters post match presser was an embarrassment in both content and body language.
Meek.
Does it seem like there is a niceness to how the All Blacks operate these days? Its feels like the reason the older, past their best players are kept around is because getting rid of them would be mean.
That's the vibe I get about Robertson in general, that he is a really nice bloke who likes his players and wants to be liked. The comment about the yellow cards essentially came across like him not wanting to hold players accountable for their mistakes. So he deflects away to looking into them.
He says when players are dropped that those phone calls are tough conversations, maybe he should put less emotion in it and just delegate those calls to someone else. I know that he has relationships with the players and he wants to preserve and maintain them but maybe being a little more ruthless would be a better approach.
He is going to lose his job if he doesnt grow a spine soon.
And as for that lad Scott Hansen. David Brent-esque corporate jargon spoofer.
-
@Jet David Brent and the Invisible Man (Jason Holland) must be skating on very thin ice.
We should have fired them rather than Rangi last year.
Unless there is a quick improvement, I'd sack them and bring in guys like Cory Jane or Tabai Matson.

@Rancid-Schnitzel I agree we are nowhere near where we were in 2015 for all sort of structural reasons but we should still doing a damn sight better than the slop that was served up yesterday.
The player led environment that Henry fostered only worked when you had leaders to drive it. If the leaders aren’t there in NZ rugby to create the right environment, it is up to the coaches to take that responsibility back to create it. But will the players accept that? Is that where there is friction maybe, e.g. players have been over empowered based on what has gone before rather than what they are now capable of?
Remember Messam and McCaw were at training in the dying embers of Fosters tenure?
Next game it was all black boots and a good performance.
Who from this squad would you call in to oversee training in say 2030?
Throw Richie in at 7 and we win that by 15.

This is the thing that I don’t get with Beaudy, ALB, Rieko, Reece in particular. Coaches value their experience so much but they have failed numerous times in big matches and have been clearly inferior to their opposites. I was accused of hating Reece because I said he and Reiko and ALB have not shown enough at this level. Let’s just rip the bandaid instead of trying to carry the to 100 tests.

Everything about them is nice.
All clean shaven. Smell lovely. Golfing. Photo Shoots. Boca Juniors or Chicago Bulls games.
When Holland got selected he was filmed getting the phone call going "holy hecker".
id be shouting "get in there ya kant" "fuckin deadly".
They are media trained robots, devoid of personality, helping opposition players back onto their feet.
There needs to be the odd arsehole in the squad.
It really hit home to me when Kurt Lee Arendse upended Beaudy onto his neck a few years back.
It looked horrific. Not one Allblack grabbed a collar.
Man, you are dead right about that.
One of the hallmarks of AB rugby was that hard nose mentality that a Laurie Mains or Grizz Wylie type of character brought to the table. Didn't smile much but they demanded the best out of their charges.
Beaver was basically ignored by Henry in Europe after Hong Kong in 2010. Its kind of harsh to treat people like that but in a high performance, cutthroat environment it's what you more or less have to do in order to maintain standards.

I've only seen the highlights and within that short view it looked like the discipline was very unlike normal service for NZ. Not just teh cards, but some pretty unnecessary penalties halting momentum or putting the pressure on. Would that be an accurate reflection of the game as a whole?
Yep. And Argentina played very smart and withpassion.
-
@Catogrande And we aimlessly kicked away a lot of good ball.

I've always thought "nice" is about the rudest word you can use to describe a Rugby player.

Jordan might not be a godsend at fullback. Who woulda thought?
Siege gun boot with pace to burn - is it not Zarn Sullivan’s time?
I’d like to see Love at 10.
15 would be a good start.

Ok. Then the next 10 off the line to get involved in the set up would be Josh Jacomb, no?
Could do worse than get Cruden back in to play 10 as a stop gap. Still knows how to run a backline and tactically is astute.

In an Ideal world, we would have seen ENS/Love get a shot at fullback, with Reihana/Love getting a shot at 10. Steady players who can pull something magic out of the bag every so often and play to a plan, who have shown consistency at the next level down.

@stodders Aaron Cruden should never have been allowed to leave our shores. We should have paid him enough to have been our first-choice 10 for last eight years.
Could he still do it? Barrett and DMac are stop gaps themselves

Would be nice to see DMac given an actual fucking chance. The kind of backing Scott Barrett got/gets.
-
I know that DMac plays the odd loose game of Super Rugby and a lot of the Fern hold that against him.
But he hasn't stunk the joint as often for the ABs as another veteran First Five.
And DMac was voted the best 10 in the world last year by the folks who choose World Rugby's Team of the Year.
