Aoteroa Rugby Pod is so much better than The Breakdown.
I think the key reason is actual rugby analysis and less emphasis on "personality".

Yp but unfortunately mate more watch Breakdown for exactly same reasons.
They perhaps like personalities rather than analysis

NZ Rugby lost about NZ$20M last year?

Now the broadcast deal with Sky TV is down about NZ$30M per year?

Another addition to the government's balance sheet?

Would that be about an NZ$50M loss per year?

I have never worked out balance sheets etc, a lot of losses seem to be writing down value of things etc. I just look that they got $174 mill in reserve and shrug my shoulders. If they got to budget better they probably have to. Don't they have things like 5-8 mill or whatever it is less they give RA to help out their super etc now? I not sure the NZR is going to be broke in next while.
Just out of interest would Bunnings be paying more for naming rights etc of NPC now it on FTA and reaching bigger audience? I would guess all these things come into account, know the PUs will be stoked as they will hopefully lever quite a bit better sposordship $s with games on FTA.

@Dan54 And hopefully more gate takings and fan involvement with friendlier daytime kick offs now that every fixture no longer needs separate kick off times given not every match being screened live on Sky/TVNZ

@Dan54 Main reason drop in revenue is they haven't had to compete with SparkSport this time around. NZR and Sky happy with new deal by sounds of it Spark needed it so negotiation prices were raised.

Did he say anything about whether TVNZ are paying for the NPC?

Anyone else ears prick up with TV! getting WC soccer, and setting up to show all of it. All NZ games apparently FTA and they setting up pay channel or something for rest of games. They sound like they getting ready to have a real crack at sports broadcasting. They already got home test cricket, and a few others. They saying talked of how they successfully bid for NPC and local netball comp , and mentioned other sports, that I forget now. We get URC rugby etc there already. Another player in market is good for rugby etc going forward

Can't say I agree with that. I reckoned there were a few in BA where the host broadcaster showed a few incidents over and over as though they were trying to get the ref team's attention. Then they barely showed the Tupou Vaa'i card on replay, which could be because it was borderline - compared to the other two at least.

I switched off Stan for the summer due to them raising the price because they got English soccer. I've been doing ok ... so far.
