So yesterday (Monday) I was due to fly to Auckland at 1710 for a 2 day course...I get a text at 1545 saying my flight had been cancelled due to "operational issues" 5 mins later i get a text telling me not to worry, they had rebooked me on the next available flight...tomorrow (Wednesday) at midday...fluffybunnies...I hate that drive, so I had to drive, did I mention fluffybunnies?
Call me if you need a flight next time. NZWR is 19 minutes away and I’m always looking for an excuse! You can do me a deal on my insurance…

Americans saying ‘period’ at the end of every fucken sentence.
The girl is watching some crap on Netflix about cheerleaders, in the last couple of minutes it’s been….
‘We’re not doing it, period’
‘You need to train harder, period’
‘It’s not happening, period’
‘I’m not happy with that, period’

Flights at basement prices. "Graveyard Airlines: we make our competitors dig deep."

My son is 21 now, into his third year at Uni, and generally learning to deal with life (when his Mum lets him - more on that soon... ).
I'm a little disappointed that he's even nerdier than I was, but can't really hold that against him given I provided the genetics. During his teen years he had some pretty miserable shit going on (for our socio-economic bracket at least) but found his self confidence at the end of high school. When he arrived at Uni, found other nerds he could hang with; his people.
However, he still harbours a bit of anxiety about losing his friends and the thought of being outcast.
On a side note, I'd like him to lose some weight and be a bit more active. He's not quite living-in-Mom's-basement but he's one foot in the goth / emo landscape. I guess all guys his age have a bit of "this is who I truly am now" in different ways, and you can't convince them they're not right. We've noted that he was self-harming at some point, tho I think that was short term and mainly out of curiosity. He was in a bit of a mental pit last year and we had him seek professional help about it last year.
I digress...
He came home from Uni yesterday having had a pretty good day. Said his lectures were actually interesting for a change, he was working on a group project (film) with some friends and even a couple of them have ideas about setting up their own production company. He's good with the editing tools and such, so they'd have him along for a bit of ad hoc work.
About 10PM, he comes out to me - white as a sheet - and in what I'd describe as a mild panic.
Apparently on the Discord server shared by his wider Uni friend group, someone who graduated last year - let's call them Fluffybunny A - left a rant about "some of the guys in this group" being "inappropriate" or some shit. He responded in a sympathetic tone, and then some bitch has basically told him he was "the worst" of it. Right in front of everyone, electronically speaking.
Now, this is a kid who is anxious about upsetting anybody he knows, in case he's ostracised. Social isolation is something that happened to him a bit in high school, and it is a spiral downwards in every case. He went into his shell and two of his mates had to come around to talk him down a bit, and just try to figure out what the fuck started all this.
I don't have many details except to say some groundwork was done by the lads and details emerged where what he did/said might have made someone uncomfortable, but they didn't say anything at the time. Suffice to say a lot of the kids he hangs out with come from fairly affulent, yet troubled households (Mum/Dad don't get on and/or are divorced or one part living overseas etc).
He's approached at least one of the offended parties to try and get a bit more clarity, and there seems to be some progress there.
Fluffybunny A tho? They can go and get fucked, because they are a two-faced fluffybunny. The Boy says all their face-to-face interactions have been positive, but then they go and lob a virtual hand grenade into the ether on behalf of "all the girls" in the group who might have taken offence at something completely unintended.
That self-appointed Champion shit can get in the fucking sea. If they were really friends with anyone in that group who had beef, they should have encouraged them to seek reconciliation with the offending party before anything.
The other thing that grinds my teeth is Mrs TA trying to solve this like he's still in primary school. Trying to blather solutions at him a thousand words a minute and wargaming every possible scenario for his benefit.
He. Is. A. Grown. Ass. Man.
Sure, what's been thrown at him is a bit of a shock, but he's not going to learn to get out of this sort of crap unless he's got the reins.
She said we should have kept up his sessions with the psych, and when I asked why it was "so he could practice the tools they teach him". For me, he's not going to use the tools if he's not in bad situations, so why waste money on it?
To all that, I would like to drop one of my favourite things regarding this situation and my kids (21 and nearly-18) not cleaning up after themselves, helping around the house as much as they should, mowing the lawn, or cooking dinner at least one night a week:
-
In the last week I've replaced my laptop and purchased a new coffee machine - both 8 yrs old. Replacements are great, manuals have been read and setup completed.
I have no more tech to replace. Feeling depressed.

We've been forced into replacing Citrix with Appstream, after Citrix tried to hold us over a barrel with a 230% annual price hike and a several year contract. What a bunch of eggs. Somehow I've ended up being one of the talking heads running webinars/demos twice weekly to hundreds of clients at a time and prior to that leading testing. The last two to three weeks have been a fucking ball ache.
