I'd like to think that even the usual ferals on social media might think twice after that photo.

@Virgil Yes, he clearly did not want to be caught and to fire that many rounds at Police showed he was clearly unwell and to do that in front of their child and put them at risk? Thoughts are with the officer who was shot.

The horrible thought was if the child had been shot accidentally whilst Police were firing on the offender. Thankfully that didn't happen but it was a real possibility.

Can understand the frustration/ anger at the whole system re the custody and that side, which is supposedly why he went on the run...but the burglaries and now shooting a cop, this was never gonna end well.

was he a bad egg pre-going on the run / the custody stuff? Or did that start a spiral? That's not meant to be an excuse btw, just curious as to the timeline

@voodoo Yeah I wonder how much conspiracy theory and hatred of government and authority has changed with the internet. Australia have had QLD, Tassie and now Victoria where Police have been shot by males who for whatever reason believe they have been unfairly targeted and hate the govt which leads them to believing violence against Police is the only course of action.

Police should be monitoring FB as some of the comments are beyond feral.

Freedom of speech and all of that but I can’t believe what some folk say on very public forums.

If Police need to use a firearm it is only to protect life and stop the threat immediately, to do that you aim at the largest mass which is the chest. Even the notion of trying to wound someone who is trying to kill you shows a complete lack of understanding of when and why Police use lethal force.

Problem with ol' Tom is that his largest mass was his GINORMOUS head.

Lol what, it's not possible to shoot to wound anyway, those people need to google the main arteries of the body and where they are, expecting an officer to purposely miss them all is hilariously ridiculous

Dirty Harry shot Scorpio in the leg so as he would still be alive to tell him where he’d buried the girl but that’s more of an exception than a rule.

I think the best feral comment was the ‘fucken pigs’ will be thrilled they got a chance to finally murder him.

I do wonder about that though, and what the details were. Was he unwilling to have shared custody? Or was there a reason the mother was awarded sole custody? There is generally more to the story when one party loses custody all together, and given this guys mental stability...

I hope the two kids that aren't found yet don't have guns with them. They may shoot out of fear. Not smart to drive back into Piopio on the ATV. That sound would have been noticed by the locals at that time of the night.

@No-Quarter dunno, NZ system is heavily weighted in the mothers favour, regardless of her situation.

Definitely could be one of those "Falling down" situations. The main losers in this will be the kids (Tom's lost out I suppose)
